any fellow bowhunters

hi guys,

hi guys been in perth for about a year now and have been out and about trying to get onto property owners for permission to hunt on their lands, to which has been alot of fuel and phone calls and letterf for very little replys and the answer of no, i understand thier concern and do not blame them no harm to ask, but im trying to just see if any one out there knows of any one that can help out or point me in the right direction of some one that would not mind in some one to come out and knock out a few ferals, not trying to get every thing that moves but some nice pelts would be nice or some nice trophy horns or take out some bunnies or a cpouple of foxes, any help appreciated. im even keen to help out and lend a hand if it gets me onto the property to hunt.

to get permission for a rifle let alone a bow. I have to start searching for some properties myself soon, but I dont fancy your chances cold-calling with a bow (not a fan of bowhunting myself TBH).

Can only suggest joining a club where you may find a sympathetic property owner as a member.

Sat, 2012-01-07 22:10

Been doing plenty with the bang sticks up my neck of the woods. Can be hard to even get on up this way but once your on the first place and do the righty, your on the way to more opportunites.

Good luck with it timmoFFF, post some pics here if you do ok.

Interesting

Let's see the pics of your trophys and lets see what the responses are. This is a fishing site after all. And as an aside, what's the difference in killling an animal from one side of the hill to another than being closer and killing it (or maiming it) from a closer distance with a primative weapon?

What's the problem Vince? Fishing and hunting are both birds of the same feather IMO.

Yes they are John

Except we have regulation in the fishing game. I also have opinion in how we hunt regardless. Sorry mate, just the mention of a crossbow upsets me. I know you will feed back on me but that's how I feel. I guess I feel the same about spear fishing. At my age mate I can feel pain regardless of whether it's my pain or someting else.....

Bow

Sat, 2012-01-07 23:31

Bow hunting is totally different to cross bow hunting. I dont think TimmoFFF would be going to all the trouble if he couldnt actually stalk in close and take an effective BOW kill shot from within say 30-50 metres.

BTW, Cross bows are actually illegal in WA anyway Vince. Just because some dickhead may crossbow shoot a tame roo at a national park that hops off with the quarrel still in it doesnt reflect on the ethics or skill of responsible hunters.

Good luck with the search TimmoFFF!

Prohibited weapon

Sun, 2012-01-08 00:24

The way I understand is you can own one if you fit into three categories:

1) A collector for display purposes

2) Used in a registed archery club event (must be a member of Archery Australia)

3) Used as part of a film or dramatic production

for sure

Sun, 2012-01-08 00:11

for sure there is more skill to stalking into bow range. Watched a few Roger Raglin episodes with some amazing shots of bow and black powder. He comes across as a bit of a twat but ya cant knock his enthusiasm or achievements.

I guess I get put off by the fact that while a well placed shot from either will kill immediately, theres more leeway and "room for error" (poor choice of words I know) with the correct choice of firearm. As you say though each to his own, for me Im more interested knocking them over (fish and rabbits/foxes) than catch and release fishing/bowling 1 or 2 ferals over.

Best of luck though, as said I reckon through a club would be easily your best bet.

out the back of GINGIN shot a couple of wild pigs a few years ago, the farms out there may be a chance. the pigs were just escaped ones from local pigeries that the locals have a problem with.

sounds like fun.

HAHA

They definately arnt just domestic pigs up there. They are about as feral as they get. But good luck getting onto a property up there. With all the poachers and F*#kwits round these days cutting fences and shooting anything that moves including stock and doing the wrong thing by everyone. There isnt many famers around these days that will trust someone that they dont know.
