Ryan and myself are heading down this season, we use chook pellets and they go white and swell up in the water to make it easy to detect marron when snaring.
Straight forward, we use chook pellets and they go white (not until they absorb water) and swell up in the water to make it easy to detect marron- Marron are black so on a white background they stand out....
whens the season start?? went last year for the first time and ive got to say chook pellets are the ONLY way to go. nothing touched the read meat at all
Surveillance operation nets alleged marron poacher A 34-year-old Albany man is expected to be charged this week, after marron were found in a bath when his home was inspected by Fisheries and Marine Officers. Supervising Fisheries and Marine Officer Mark Kleeman said the man’s residence was searched in the early hours of Saturday as part of a joint operation with WA Police. “All but one of the 46 marron found in the home were in the bath and alive, so they have been returned to the marron farm we will allege they were taken from,” Mr Kleeman said. “Earlier in the night, we had set up a surveillance operation at an aquaculture farm in Upper Kalgan, in response to recent reports of poaching lodged with the Department of Fisheries by the property owner. “Following surveillance at the farm, Fisheries and Police Officers visited the man’s residence and located the marron.” Mr Kleeman said it was likely the man would be formally charged, under Section 172 (a) of the Fish Resources Management Act 1994, with allegedly removing fish from gear that was being used for aquaculture and the maximum penalty for the alleged offence was a fine of $25,000 plus one year’s imprisonment. “The case is an example of the willingness Fisheries Officers and the Albany Police have for mounting joint targeted operations, to investigate complaints from members of the public or reports made through FISHWATCH on 1800 815 507,” he said.
Going to head to my usual spot probably in the second or third week of the season. Always seem to do better after the opening amatuers have cleared off
And same with the chook pellets, great to provide a white background to easily spot those black beauties when snaring!

Surveillance operation nets alleged marron poacher
A 34-year-old Albany man is expected to be charged this week, after marron were found in a
bath when his home was inspected by Fisheries and Marine Officers.
Supervising Fisheries and Marine Officer Mark Kleeman said the man’s residence was searched
in the early hours of Saturday as part of a joint operation with WA Police.
“All but one of the 46 marron found in the home were in the bath and alive, so they have been
returned to the marron farm we will allege they were taken from,” Mr Kleeman said.
“Earlier in the night, we had set up a surveillance operation at an aquaculture farm in Upper

property owner.
“Following surveillance at the farm, Fisheries and Police Officers visited the man’s residence
and located the marron.”
Mr Kleeman said it was likely the man would be formally charged, under Section 172 (a) of the
Fish Resources Management Act 1994, with allegedly removing fish from gear that was being
used for aquaculture and the maximum penalty for the alleged offence was a fine of $25,000 plus

Fisheries Media Release "Another One"
15 November 2010 44/2010
Roadside check snares alleged out of season marron fisher
The next marron season doesn’t open until Saturday January 8 and Fisheries and Marine Officers
are already on patrol to prevent illegal fishing of WA’s unique freshwater crayfish.
As a result a 44-year old Bunbury man is due to face the Busselton Court, early in January, for
allegedly being in possession of 48 cooked marron, during the closed season.
The man has now been formally charged, after being apprehended during a joint Police and
Fisheries roadside check on the Vasse Highway near Nannup on Sunday (7 November).
Department of Fisheries Compliance Manager South, Steve Embling said the vehicle the man
was driving was stopped and searched and the marron haul was found in an icebox.
“Fisheries and Marine Officers also located and seized a fish landing net and two crustacean
traps,” Mr Embling said.
“If found guilty the man could face a general fine of up to $5,000 and a mandatory penalty of
between $2,400 and $7,092 can be applied according to the number or weight of marron seized.”
Western Australia’s wild stock marron fishery is only open for a limited season every year, in
order to protect the sustainability of the fishery.
Rules also apply during the season, to ensure fishers do not take undersize marron or more
marron than the limits allow.
A detailed brochure Recreational Fishing Guide – Marron 2011 can be downloaded from
www.fish.wa.gov.au and it contains all the rules and information that fishers need to know
