Anybody towing with a transit?

Now thinking of getting a transit instead of a Ute.

Anybody have one?

I drove one during a short stint I did as a courier and it went pretty well.

Anybody towing with one? How does it tow? Do they like to drink on the tow?

I am looking at 08 and newer, 2.4 or 2.2 diesel, low roof, short base, preferably two sliding doors.

All depends on what you are going to tow behind it. 2.2 or 2.4 isn't what you would call real grunt.

Don't do it. If they had a 2.8l turbo diesel maybe but vans aren't really meant for it

The wind age alone you will be ringing its neck the whole time. A mate had a 2.8l delica that struggled with anything bigger than a tinny

Towing with transit.

I have an 08 Transit, long wheelbase, high roof, 2.4 diesel.Owned from new. Tows my Haines Hunter 6m like its not there.

Surprisingly poky little engine with enough grunt to overtake when needed. With regards to windage absolutely no problem, the height of the roof i feel

breaks the wind for the boat behind.

Dont have fuel usage figures for you except start looking for a servo at 400ks. Only had one problem which was a retrieval in denham on an extremely

slippery ramp where i needed assistance from a 4wd. They have a 2.7 tonne tow rating. Have been generally very happy with the vehicle and up to 2 tonne

is a capable tow vehicle as i feel the 2.7 rating maybe a bit ambitious. Only negative really is passenger bench type seat is uncomfortable and non adjustable

for long trips. Hope this helps.

114,000ks on the clock, no problems other than the clowns in the service dept in Wangara being completely incompetent, but thats another story. Dont expect too much life out of the brakes, at 70,000 expect replacement of discs and pads.

One thing to consider is the height of the towbar. They are really low. Towed a tinnie with a work Transit once. Actually had enough power no problems, but the trailer was veey nose down and made for some scraping of the bottom of the hitch area at the ramp and speed humps.
