Anyone seeing whales heading nth and how far out?
Took this pic around Sept/Oct 2011 out the back of Rotto. I'd taken the misses & daughter out to watch the whales migrating south and had a mind blowing experience when a couple of Orcas showed up and we had them swimming beside the boat. I had no idea they were around our shores. Now the misses is always keen to go whale watching in the hope of experiencing this again. I've only ever bothered when they are heading south later in the yr but the misses is onto me asking if they are about at the moment. I'm led to believe when heading nth they are way out wide hence the charterers only go out when they are heading south, plus also they have the calves? So is anyone seeing whales heading nth and how far out?

saw some off Jurien on Saturday. Not too far out, maybe 15nm.
A couple of groups around. One breached far too close to the boat for my liking
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Currently Nth of Cape Range / Exmouth have only seen 1 a couple of days ago. Quite a spread from here down to Rotto. Home Wed so will look to head out on Sunday (wife friendly weather forecast) in the hope they are about. Scout some new ground and drop a line. Whales will be a bonus. Cheers guys

Be a buzz .. at the same time
Be a buzz .. at the same time , I think I'd lose a nugget or two thinking a half blind feral one was going to headbutt the boat .

mate it frightened the fk out of me - i had my back turned to that side, but i was thinking the same thing - i was hoping one of them wasnt going to wipe the boat out - then did a 360 about 100 metres away - was an awesome splash.

Orcas
I heard the orcas went past Jurien about 3 weeks ago, saw quite a few posts/photos. They normally head north up to Exxy late May early June and hunt the smaller first years or calves. In 6 years of Exxy I never got to see them but know of quite a few lucky buggers that saw them. I've still got the video at home of when they hunted down that small whale in front of the whale shark boats, pretty crazy stuff. Best I've managed to do is see a pod of around 100 false killers, pretty impressive, but I'm sure not as good as the real thing.
