For some reason I can't make any extra replies to put up more photos. Anyone know why not? I've got heaps of tanks & some truly large, vicious fish that I'd like to share pics of. My pride 7 joy is my 8x3x3ft tank that is home to an 18" Parachromis Dovii. For those that don't know it is one of the most vicious fish you can put in an aquarium. Mine is so aggressive it will try to attack my dog through the glass as well as my hand & anything else that gets near it's territory.
Thanks Scottland. I'll have to try to remember how to access my photobucket account. Been a very long time since I used it, might be easier just to create another account.
Ok so I can't for the life of me work out how to copy & paste pics from photobucket. I have always just uploaded from my computer. Can anyone tell me step by step how to do it please?
I have got a 4ft tropical fish tank, with silver sharks, red tail sharks, guppies, mollies, neons, bristlenose catfish aswell as algae eaters, albino sharks and some crown loaches, will post up a picture later
Mate also has 2, 4ft tanks got a pretty big bara in one
Sounds like a very busy & active tank Troy. Some of those fish get quite large (Silver/Bala Shark 35cm) are you planning on getting a bigger tank eventually? Looking forward to seeing your photo/s.I won't comment on your friend with the Barra in a 4ft tank.
I've got a 4X2 with a 60cm Murray Cod which i've had for 11 years, he's a part of the family and like your Dovii is very very aggressive, great fun to throw 6-10 full size yabbies in there and watch him demolish them in seconds! Unfortunately his tank is not very pretty as he likes to re arrange the surroundings to suit himself so live plants etc do not last for very long
Had a 500ltr tank with 2 oscars, 3 pearl cichlids and a 18 inch long sailfin pleco, went on holiday for three weeks, trusting my tank to the inlaws, came back to a dead tank, after all the work and time, couldnt really face doing it again!!
I've got a 200L tank with a mix of mainly various Rainbowfish (Boesmani's, Trifasciata's, Reds etc), Spotted Silver Dollars, Clown Loaches, Silver Sharks, Bolivian Butterflies, a Longnose Whiptail and a Peppermint Bristlenose. They all live pretty peacefully and active which isn't what i could say about my previous tennant Saratoga constantly got spooked by new people was ok with me, he got too big so had to let him go anyway.
I've got 20 odd tanks ranging from 60x25x30cm through to the big 8x3x3ft tank, most of them are 120x45x5cm or 183x60x60cm. First photo is a lightly planted 120x45x45cm cichlid tank containing one 20cm Green Severum, 2 x 10cm Geophagus Topajos, 1 x Gold Nugget Pleco & 3 x Pictus Catfish. Photo 2 is a 6x2x2ft fully planted tank with a 40cm Common Pleco & 2 25cm Oscars. Many people say you can't have live plants & Oscars together but that tank is proof you can. Phot 3 is a 90x30x28cm fully planted tank (couple of fakes in foreground) with Platies, Lemon Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, Sterba's Cories & Guppies. Photo 4 is a 90x30x28cm tank with a breeding pair of Keyholes & Australian Rainbowfish (3 species). Photo 5 is a 6x2x2ft fully planted tank containing 20 Australian Rainbowfish (4 species), 1 Firemouth, 1 Flag Cichlid, 1 Rainbow Cichlid, 1 Peppermint Bristlenose, 1 Pretty Pleco & 2 Spotted Doras. Photos 6 & 7 are of my 15" Parachromis Dovii in his 8x3x3ft tank & the last photo is of a Kribensis in a 120x45x45cm tank.
I've also got Green Terrors, Red Devils, Jaguar Cichlids, several Apistogramma species, various community species (Tetras, Barbs & stuff) Mbuna Tanks, Malawi Haps Tanks & Tanganyika tanks.
Well I can't work out how to paste the img code (or anything else) onto the forum so I'll just give you all the link to my photobucket album. It's not all of the pics I have or all of the fish but it's a reasonable selection of my American Cichlid tanks. Hope you like them.
Thanks to Bod for taking the time to teach me how to copy & paste so now I can actually put some of these pics in the thread. Here's a few more & I'll do some more later when I've got more time.
Beautiful fish / photos mate. What is the long finned, 2nd last photo? Geophagus ???
I have a 6 foot coral reef with a few mystery species.
A basic guppy, swordtail, bristlenose, etc smaller tank
A large cichlid tank with frontosa, pleco and huge brazilliensis
My 11 inch barra recently died, I got him when he was about 25mm. Now I'm thinking of obtaining a mangrove jack, this 200lt tank is outside by the swimming pool
also have a small tank which I use to grow the guppy fry in.
I built a garden pond which has a few guppies / rainbow fish and some native grunter type perchy thingies I caught in the local swimming hole
3ft Keyhole breeding tank (breed more than Guppies so great for supplying Dovii with live food)
section of a 5ft with Rosy Barbs & assorted Rainbows
2ft grow out tank with Rosy Barbs & Golden Wonder Killifish
2ft Siamese Fighter & Cherry Shrimp (everything is hiding in the photo)
All those photos are with a $130 point & shoot that is about 5yrs old. Getting good aquarium & fish photos through glass is easy. Don't use the flash unless you have to. If you have to use the flash then hold the camera at an angle to the glass or the flash will just reflect in the photo. Experiment with the angle to find out where the flash on your camera doesn't reflect in the pic. Use the flash if you have to to get photos of fast moving or very active fish. Using flash increases shutter speed & can help clear up those blurry shots of fast moving fish. Never use the flash to take a full tank photo. Make sure that there are minimal reflections on the tank, so block out light from windows, tv etc. Ideally the only light source in the room will be the aquariums overhead lights. Use the macro function on your camera if it has one but try not to use the zoom. Zooming in can mess with the clarity of a picture, your much better off not zooming & just cropping the photo once you load it onto the computer. Play with the settings on your camera. Most cameras can be switched to manual settings so you can play with the exposure, shutter speed etc. Tinker until you get the best settings for your camera & aquarium. Each aquarium will need different camera settings. Most important of all is lots & lots of patience. When you first start out trying to get good fish photos expect to take lots of photos that you will just delete before you get that one that is just right.
