Well, I am mega-bored with the boat in for maintennance on my only uni break while the weathers fantastic.
I'm interested to know, are there any other aviation enthusiasists on the site? When I'm not fishing, you'll find me at the aircraft spotting area taking photos or listening to a scanner, or if I'm lucky up for a fly in a light aircraft
Maybe you're a private pilot/commercial pilot/aircraft spotter/photographer/or just love the idea of flying generally. I know theres a lot of FIFO guys on this site, and a few FIFO guys i know are pretty keen on aeroplanes (although i guess its their gateway to INCOME)
I'm interested to know how many others like me are on the site!
Cheers

Ex Aircraft Engineer.
Not a plane spotter, but an ex aircraft engineer. Worked on the old engines that they used in the second world war as in the B17, and the C47 (DC3). Did my apprenticship on Beavers, DC3,s and Locheed Lodestars. Did crash salvage work in Papua New Guinea when I worked for Talair. Also did the egineering work on the first Air-Tractor to come into Aussie, thats the single engine yellow machine you see fighting fires.

Aircraft lover
I love aircraft! we live near RAAF Base Pearce and I just love watching them train. Lately they've been pretty low (about 300ft) so it gets quite noisy. Dad and I have competitions to see who can guess the type of plane first.
To find me you have to think like me. To catch me you have to be faster then me. To be me.... HAHA you must be joking!

Actually at the airport now waiting for a flight to learmonth and chopper out to Ocean America rig. First time chopper flight and looking forward to it.heading to Darwin in July and will hit the aviation museum there.

Planes that blow s%#& up!
That place is pretty cool, always been a military plane buff. Went to darwin about ten years ago and was really impressed with the museum as we have nothing like it here in WA, nothin like being up close to a B52 to get an idea of how big they really are, when i was there you could climb up and look in the cockpit and go under the bomb bays. Remember there being an old shot down zero somewhere and some french mirage jets outside too

I'm an aircaft maint engineers/pilot, and must say I used to be interested in aircraft when I first started out, but after being around them for over 20 years, I have lost a lot of interest in them but still marvel at them ever so often

awesome
mick71, are you a commercial or private pilot? Who do you fly for? My father is a pilot and I'm currently training to become one.
Good to see plenty of aeroplane lovers on the site, after all-whats not to love? they go high, go fast and make noise.

Hi Sambo!!
I used to be a commercial pilot instructor back in South Africa, flying B1900 from JNB to Kruger National Park, with some instruction inbetween, I did convert my lience over to Oz, and got an offer of a job with Qantaslink, but found engineering was a better option ( and paid more) for me, so now I just fly for fun, and seem to enjoy my flying a lot more now, it's a passion now and not just another job (i.e. bus driver)

How much does it cost to get your license?
Also how many hour do you have to fly each year?
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

hey allrounder,
Theres a lot of rules to know but basically to keep current you need to do three takeoffs and three landings every 90 days. To get your private license I think basic rule of thumb is about 10k, and to go all the way through to commercial rating (to work as a pilot in the industry) it is as much as 90k. I don't think there is a set amount of hours to fly each year, just the need to stay current.

I see the inside of the things more than the outside these days, Skywest F100's from Busso to West Angelas. But dont mind sitting out the airport watching planes come and go. Take down their VH numbers and check them on the internet later on to see who they belong to.
Cheers

that is pretty cool. I can't wait to start my radio control collection, too bad its nearly as expensive to run and maintain the R/C ones as it is to hire an actual plane ;(

There is an air show at Pierce Air base on the weekend of the 19th of May and apparently the C-17 will be there should be awsome.
I fly RC it's not as expensive as it once was but it's along the same line as fishing where you can throw an endless amount of money at it and still want more.
I've also done a bit of gliding out at beverly and endevour to get my solo certification one day but for now I've had to give it a miss, there are only so many hours in a week!

One of my uni lecturers is hiring out a turboprop from the company he works for and flying in to the pearce show from Perth, mostly so he can be airside in around the displays. He is splitting the cost of the hire with students who are keen, I'm not flying in but hopefully my ASIC will get me airside and around the displays. I HOPE.
C-17 would be interesting, certainly one hell of an aeroplane

Saw something interesting today
Saw something interesting today, while in side my house I heard what was a big jet flying overhead, and spooling up, i.e.cranking on full throttle. I went out side and saw the airliner in a turn, not too low but 500 ft plus, in a turn. What was interesting was the vapout comming off the wings, right along their length. I've seen wing tip vorticies, or comming off the prop tips, but never this. Perhaps it was a 737 out of jandacot doing pilot training?
