Back from Exmouth
Well, what a trip!!! We managed to get 7 days of fishing, some of them being half days focused on fishing the incoming tide as the mornings were very blowy.
Since my first report we went out to Peak Island and caught a few medium sized gt's, one monster queenie, quite a few spaniards - biggest being 14kg and smallest about 7. One 22kg wahoo, big red bass, good sized rankin, small trout and red emperor, a monster cod of 50kg released of course and a hell of a lot of fish that were destroyed by sharks. At one stage we had a tiger shark all of 9ft try to be an air jaws on hookup, very scary business within 25m of the boat when he's launched well and truly higher than the boat. More longtail tuna than you could poke a stick at and quite a few yellowfin amongst them. Quite a few spangled emperor, but none the size of my beast last year. So many more fish its hard to remember, guess the photo's will tell a few stories. My double header of chinaman were probably the hardest fight in 25m of water I've ever experienced, one going 9kg and the other 4kg. The last two days were totally blown out which gave us plenty of time to get on the sauce, it was a bit unfortunate that we weren't out boat fishing but the land based gave plenty of time for a few beers.
I will post up a few happy snaps from my camera to give you an idea and will get the rest of the hundreds of photo's from the boys when I get a cd to burn them on.
Rock on Exmouth, provided many memories once again, I love that place. :))

Gribbo got destroyed on the reef by a monster GT at Oysters on the incoming tide. Tried Yardie Creek for a small GT on softies yesterday, only really gave it a half shot as the wind was blowing them back over our heads half the time. Apart from that we boated it most of the time. The tuna are in huge numbers between North West Reef and Murions, just look for the birds. Managed to get my big Yellowfin trolling a red and white out from the Mangroves down tantabiddi way and the rest of the fin were caught behind Nor-west Reef in between double longtail hookups.

Welcome back
Sounds like you had an awesome time. Weather sounded OK but a bit blowie, luckily there are plenty of options up there.
The goldspot Tevally up there are like blowies down here, bet you caught a heap of them too.
Good to hear you made it up to Peak island I reckon that place rocks.
Can't wait for the video of that Marlin capture....... I'm very jealous!!!!!

Boys did well
They did well, Marks 22kg Wahoo was a beast. Bolts got his Mack which was close to 15kg and had him around the anchor rope and no-one to help him (considering he tried to ruin my jack photo with a finger in the background I decided that he could land his own fish) We all called it for a noah but I finally went and helped him out to give him a solid fish. I hardly got a fish for the first 2 days, just a longtail and the destroyed tuna in the photo, then the next day it was the marlin and fin, how my trip changed in the matter of hours.
Yep, Grib was a bit pissed about the trev, but he got over because it did him in within seconds of hookup and he got the double hookup on one lure the day before.

Favourite Spot
Favourite spot would have to be Peak, that place was a fish haven. There was so much baitfish in the area that when the predators came through the fish would jump and upon re-entry would sound like thunder. You could see monsters swimming under the boat that had us excited every minute we were there. A close second would have to be Tantabiddi, purely for the marlin capture, big tuna and the thumping chinaman. It's really too difficult to call though because nearly everywhere we went had different fish that still caused a lot of pain, tackle damage and bent over rods.

Peak Island for sure.
Yep that place got my vote as the hottest action I have ever experienced. Variety was awesome and the quality was great too. I could have fished that place 5 days on the trot and caught at least 3 new species each day. Did you get in close to the island or stay in the 20's south east of it where I had suggested?

We explored a little bit but nothing compared to what was there, a local boat was sitting out the back of the island in the 50's and came past and returned one of our busted off poppers and said they'd bagged on red's and crimsons. Would have been great to spend some quality time looking around, if only it wasn't an hour and half journey over there in 15 knot south easterly slop. :( And then having to leave at 4pm to get back before dark to fillet and pack away the fish.

Welcome back Adam looks like you guys had a ball.You certainly did better than us in the fish on line department.Just one question are you sure that's a Mangrove Jack it looks like a Red Bass? I'm not 100% sure,good pics.

Great report Adam and co, sounds like an awesome trip, very jealous, but just counting down the days now.... a little over a week for me now.
to the north side of the island there were caverns and huge rises and dropoffs, we just dropped on a random spot that wasn't even that special on the sounder. Didn't really matter much thou, we were pulling up so many new species we just threw them back if we didn't know what they were......
Were you using bait, sp's or jigs, or a combination of all of the above..... There is soooo much i wanna do while i'm up there....

Using everything
At Peak we used everything, we had two ballooned floating gardies out at all times. Two of us were bottom bogging with bait, one was drifting down a mulie and one was poppering/bottom bouncing depending on the schools coming through. The white snapbacks were accounting for a heap of light line tuna catches but we didn't really use them off the bottom as the bait was doing the damage. Its not such a good idea to use tuna for bait when in the 20-30m's as it so oily and bloody I'm pretty sure that's why we were attracting so many sharks at times. Even then they were taking squid at times as well, just so many of the bastards they were hard to get past.

not to mention a 20+ kg yellowfin that launched about 5ft in the air with my haymaker in its mouth like a bone, only 2 be sharked on re-entry. Damn sharks....

Peak is one of my favourite too, got plenty of good spots of my own that produce all species :)
