Last one I heard of was caught off the rockingham jetty. If you know how cold the sound is, you know how unlikely that is.

They would castrate me..
They would castrate me.. but definitely in the sound and there was even an article in a mag written by Screwloose a few months ago about them. Drop him a Pm or drop by his shop sometime (safety bay tackle i believe) and I'm sure he'd help you out.

in the metro metro area i reckon u could try and u would hook up to more boats drivin over ur line than spaniards, save ur time tryin to catch a boat and go out and buy one.(if u dont already have one and just looking to complete an amazing goal)

Time and effort
It is very possible to catch mackies in the metro waters landbased, its a matter of right winds, water temperature and area.
Woodies Point is one spot. South Mole and North Mole are others. Basically most rockwalls can produce. Yes you have to deal with boats but I dont see any boat at woodies driving within 500m of the jetty, so you're save there.
With South and North Mole, the fish are not at the tip, so you dont have to fish there. What about to the side and half way along?? Boats dont come into the bay there.
Another tip is to use high vis line and balloons that dont pop when you hook a fish. That way the boats can see whats on the water.
I'd say give it a go. Its all preparation and a bit of logic. Anything is possible if you dont try.

To increase my odds i would be taking a ferry to rotto mate. Then depending where the wind is coming from, head to the right side for balloning. Have caught a mack in very close there, and have mates that dive there, and see them in close all the time..goodluck

rotto, gotta love it.
yer ive been ballooning 4 times at rotto and got a spanny on 2 sepperate occasions. i know fishing is based on patience, effort and percistance but as i grew up up north its not something i am so used to. i wish i did have the patience to soak a bait around here just to reach such a good milestone but thats just me.
