Barra Trip Recommendation

Hi all

I'm keen on doing a fishing trip up north WA or NT with my two boys.

The 2 objectives are to get amongst some Barra and to land a Black Jew....anything else is a bonus.

I've seen a few...Shady Camp, One Tree Beach, Barra Camp, Kimberley Coastal Camp etc.  Some live aboard, others stay in a lodge of sorts.  Probably looking at around 5 days/nights.  Looks like Feb-May is the "season".

Has anyone done a trip like this that they would recommend?

Cheers

Terry,

I'd have a chat with Paul Hillary as he might be able to give you a few pointers.  I believe Paul's family have done many trips over the years and, as usual, have done pretty well.

Cheers.

Geez, so many variables.

One Tree Beach and Kimberley Coastal Camp would be alot of fun and are on my bucket list as they offer more of a wilderness trip compared to Darwin and the surrounds. ( Shady, Daly, Adelaide etc)

I tended to do the whole self sufficient, drive-camp-own boat-car thing in the Kimberley so not a lot of help to you unfortunately.

Certainly be a proud moment to do a wilderness trip with the kids though.

Great guides, huge variety of fish and just a brilliant place to stay.  Food exquisite but it isn't cheap

Try Ultimate Adventures in Kununurra. Mostly Barra though no black Jews. Lots of wildlife to keep your boys amused too.

If you want to do it yourself with a hire boat at shady camp you can PM me, i have been doing it for 14 years heading up from Busselton in march and hiring a boat and car, accomodation is 20km from ramp. i can give you tips where to try for the barra and jew and what to use, less than the cost of guided trips per person
