I had 2 juvis in a 4ft, they out grew it in less than a year. I wouldnt be keeping a barra unless I had atleast 1000lt, 6x2x2ft tank. They are fine in multiples. Fish like Jacks ar territorial and should only be kept solo. Tim that worked at BW morley told me about 1 he had when he was working up north as a guide. It lived in a swimming pool and at partys etc, he would jump in and grab his mate and walk around introducing her to everyone haha

Mate I had two finglerings

Sat, 2013-08-17 13:54

Mate I had two finglerings and I came home and the tail of one was sticking out of the others mouth, other survived for round two years, got huge! Best fist I've ever kept had him with an archer fish , but no, fry barra must be graded all the time to prevent cannabalism, or you will loose most of your stock.

He got to around 30cm in a 4ft 110L tank, tht was with a 15cm salmon tail catfish and the archer fish ( they are great for showing guests as u can catch moths and other bugs and it will shoot it out of your hand )

Yesss, I want a bb too! Where to buy juvis? Or just net one *shhhh* lol. I got a murray cod, aus bass, the archer, all juvis, and reckon a juvi bream would be mint to add with that lot, then this summer get a small toga. The bass is a little jet, the cod is a bottom dwelling pig. Miss my mangrove jack, didnt have him long, got crook, but man they are an awesome fish, agro predators. I got a vid of it chasin the little footy my boy was kickin around the lounge room. Sorry Karl for hijacking you thread! Barras are cool, but dont do much, but like any predator tho, it's always fun when you bring some livies home

 Sounds like an awesome tank

Sat, 2013-08-17 20:47

Sounds like an awesome tank timo! Yeh when I worked at a pet store down in bunbury (green line garden centre ) we sold them there, I rekon a wild one would be too spooked and add unwanted stress to your tank . I'm sure u could maybe hit up golden ponds or the challenger Tafe?  Or online search may prove fruitless.

black bream

The wild bream do get stressed a bit when you go near them but I am finding they calm down after a while. They can be a bit agressive towards each other as well. Nice to be able to just grab one for lunch when the need arises!

Depends. A coral/reef tank is harder than a fish only setup. The ocean is such a stable environment, with most aquarium fish and corals being live caught, you need to provide a stable environment. Freshwater however is a little more forgiving. Most fish can tollerate fluctuations in water chemistry, makin freshwater setups, generally easier.
