Be very careful in the bush...

Well its finally happend. In the last year i have stepped on a tigersnake, last week in kalbarri i just about stepped on a whip snake while cutting through the dunes at whittacarra creek . Each time while wearing shorts and thongs.

Last night at bells rapids lookout i hopped out the car and was walking about 5 meters from the car on the gravel next to the road. I wasnt watchn where i was walking and stepped on this snake, it bit my shin. I jumped back in massive shock and realised it was only a stimmy python. THANK GOD!!!!!!

Got a nice couple bite mark on my leg. SOOOOO lucky it wasnt a tiger, dugite or a death adder which are all found there. Took these shots strait after of it mega pissed off. Lovley markings on it and a really health specimen.

Time to buy some decent boots me thinks....

Oh yes

Thu, 2012-01-19 17:58

the feeling of sheer terror.  Got out of the car on one of the tracks north of Leeman was behind another car, looked down and a snake came out from under our friends car, from memory, red belly and black on top with a black head, just stood there, think it was more frightened than me, must be so careful in the bush, as we always seem to have thongs on or bare feet.

Geezes Taylor Mac you sure have been in the wars with snakes, glad it wasn't a nasty posionious one.

That`s not a stimson.

Thu, 2012-01-19 20:44

It`s a carpet python, big shock factor eh he looks like he`s had a fresh moult, there will be plenty around at this time of the year, they are still sucking up the heat from the rocky outcrops and there`s a fair chance of a feed on rodents coming for a drink.

Great shots Marc. I've done

Great shots Marc. I've done the nearly step on a tiger in thongs thing, it struck just as I moved my foot away so I was extremely lucky. Been wearing blundstones everytime I go bush ever since.

a word of warning

Thu, 2012-01-19 21:01

iI worked on Garden Island for a good number of years and have seen a few people bitten by carpet snakes, in all the cases that I knew the bite became infected, don't know why but they just did. Please keep the bites under carful watch and check for signs of infection. Sorry to sound a bit of an alarmist but if it becomes red around the bite sight it might be a good idea to get your local doctor to check it out

Top pics as usuall Marc. I know these Pythons aren't  very Venomous but is there any danger from the venom? Or do they just bite with no venom released?

I`ve had a few love taps

Mon, 2012-01-23 20:11

I`ve had a few love taps over the years from Pythons and have had no problems, once you get the puncture Marc to stop bleeding, a spot of betadine does the trick. Similar bite pattern to a big Flattie or Cod.
