Best braid to braid knot

i have a reel with some 50lb braid on it but i bought another 150 meters to put on top because the reel needs more line. i've been doing some research and all most forums and topics are all braid to mono leaders, but i want to know what knot is best used to join braid to braid both lines are 50lb and diameters is extremely close if not the same.

cheers

Bimini in each end, then catspaw to loop to loop, going through the middle at least 4 times.

Best knot by far fro braid to

Sun, 2011-09-25 13:34

Best knot by far fro braid to braid is as follows:

- carefully wrap one end of the braid around you left hand

- open up the bail arm

- then carefully pull the old braid off the spool, wrapping it cautiously around your right hand in a criss cross pattern until every last bit is off.

- very gently pull the braid off your hand, making sure the criss cross pattern is not lost, and place it gently in the bin.

- then respool right to the brim with new baid you cheap bastard....haha (all in good humour dude!).

But seriously, I have tried a braid to braid knot about half way in the spool, thnking it would never get that low anyhow......on a really good fish, the drag was screaming....an yep, as soon as thebraid to braid knot came off the spool......twang....GONE!

Dont risk a fish of a life time on a knot that will not be much better than 60%.

Or that!

Or that!

I really don't think that a bimini to catspaw is a lousy 60% like a uni knot.

Bimini twist - bimini twist

Bimini twist - bimini twist via cats paw is supposed to be almost 100% knot strength. Definitley not 60%.

Small bimini in both braids and then a double uni.

Double Uni is quick, easy and strong

No need to be too fancy with same diameter braids. The double uni works really well as long as it's tidy. I do however agree that no knots are the best solution. If fishing deep however it can get expensive discarding all braid after a snap-off.

Never had it happen

I have lost 30-40m before but how exactly would you get a snap-off half way up your line?

Just chuck the remainder and respool with fresh braid. If budget is a problem import a bulk spool of a reputable brand like tuff line or Saltiga boat braid.

Works out a hell of a lot cheaper than buying 300m spools

Experience tells me all sorts of things can happen. Challenging other peoples opinions or trying to discredit posts is not a positive here. Each to their own mate.

how i've got you knickers in a twist Vince, just offering my opinon.

I would hate to hear that next time spooledagain went fishing he hooked then lost his 'fish of a lifetime' due to his braid to braid connection failing.

Ok Matt but the post was about a knot

Sun, 2011-09-25 19:58

I offered my opinion and you tailed off my post suggesting something other than I had posted and that was to do with knots. If the guy (or we) choose to match up braid then let's help the guy with a knot recommendation, not a throw-away suggestion. There are plenty of times I can reclall where line has broken high up. Abrasion from the boat or a hookup round the prop..... for us landies mate a run along a reef structure can take heaps.
