Yeah have read it..Take it with a grain of salt.All these high end reels are very good and your not going to have any issues with a saltiga or a stella so get whatever you like most and for me thats the saltiga.Most of the problems in that review where stuff that followed through from the old saltiga and considering i know of many of them still as good as the day they where bought after 5+ years it doesn't bother me.
I have the very first Saltiga 6500 exp that was sold in Wa and also one of the first 20000 stellas and 6000 stellas.The saltiga apart from carbontex drag upgrade has never missed a beat.The 6000 has been back to shimano twice and the 20000 once for repairs.The stella 20000 drag is a little bit smoother.The 6500 puts out far more pressure and has less parts to stuff up.They have all caught a lot of fish and i wont part with any of them.Saying that if i had to choose just one to take on a long haul hardcore trip it would be the saltiga hands down.On the simple fact that they dont breakdown as often.We did some testing on the new saltiga and a lot of the issues havent appeared as yet.The drag is almost on par with the stella and the rotor is fine so far.The only thing i will say is it is not the reel for a stinky bait fisherman that likes to keep their gear clean.To many little spots for the crap to get.Now to take one switchbaiting for little billfish and give them a true workout.
Should get mine early next week and I agree they are one sexy looking reel! Almost went the Stella 20000 but I think it would be over kill for the majority of fishing I do.
Very true, im guessing it would take one serious fish or fishes to burn out one of these reels. I'm a Daiwa man myself and plan to get a 6500 saltiga at some stage, it may not be as good as the stella according to some reviews but i know that it is MORE than enough reel for me.
And yes maybe for an egg beater the Saltiga looks hot, but some overheads look flash as and I like the shape of them better. I think the black and blue Saltist looks hot, as does the BRG Shimano Curado as a Baitcaster, but by far the sexiest type of reel is IMO a top quality Fly reel like a Tibor Signature. I just think they look cool as.
No taking the boat out today its blowing here in sunny Hedland. Gotta amuse myself some how. Went out last weekend and the Mackies are going off here at the moment got two less then a mile out of the harbour, but only landed two halves cause the men in grey coats are also lovin it.
