Hello Fisho's
Ive finished kitting out my 4by and have set up the tinny trailer with Patrol rims and Im looking at heading up to Karratha for fishing trip.
When is the best time of the year up there for Barra in the creeks and Mackies out in the blue ?
You never know maybe Ill like it too much and not want to return to the big smoke !!
Cheers

Summer for barra
And winter for mackies. Cyclone season is by far the best for barra because they need the heat in the water to stop them being bloody lazy. Mackies number more during the cooler months. 4m tinny might be a little small to venture to the true Mackie areas but there is still fun to be had closer in on various fish.
hope this help but more experienced Pilbarra anglers like Jay, Brad and daisy might add some further info.

So how big would say is big
So how big would say is big ? Id really struggle with a 5 footer
My tinny is actually abit of super duper tinny with a 40HP motorand having been out to Dirk Hartog, West End of Rotto plenty, well off Carnac / Garden and out around Albany and the shipwreck trail down south.
Does it get really windy in summer or is that when it is calm ?

Its just been blowing its box off
lately because of that bloody big high in the bite. It can be a bit hit and miss with the weather but there is always a lee to find among the islands.

You can get mackies all year
You can get mackies all year round. I'd recommend coming over late summer because the barra will be on the chew and best weather.

I actually prefer november
I actually prefer november through to bout the second week of dec for barra, if it is a hot dry summer the water temp is a bit high in jan - mar you still get them allright its just that is usually our most active cyclone period

I guess it's a matter of
I guess it's a matter of oppinion, I hate the weather in nov-december, stinkin' hot and windy. Can't really get out bluewater much and it's even annoying down the creeks.
Mar/April been the best for me year after year, great weather, great fishing.

Hopefully I can get a stay up your way this year, maybe put a bend in that GT stick I got from Brad. The rod is probably feeling decidely neglected under my ownership.....
