A Big Event - for me anyway
Hi Ya all,
A couple of mates (if you can call them that) have been applying considerable (friendly) pressure since around October 2009 to get my head shaved for charity. For those fortunates who have not met me you wouldn't know I have hair very nearly half way down my back and have so for 20+ years and I have a beard almost as old. Our daughter at 26 years old (our oldest) cannot remember me without long hair or beardd. Well, I have finally succumed to the pressure. The only bits not to be touched are the eyebrows. Some things simply can’t be purchased. Well, depends on the amount offered but it would have to be huge - 4 figures in single donation from a single sponsor. Think I'm pretty safe.
The two mates, my ‘campaign managers’, are of the belief (but I’m a little more sceptical or realistic, not sure which) that a figure in excess of $5,000 can be ‘raised’ (they have access to a wide audience they think can be tapped and one of them is my dentist so he is going to pay very heavily particularly as he was the instigator). It will occur Saturday evening, 20 November at a location which shall forever remain secret. I have set up a web page at the Cancer Council WA site to receive donations. Apparently, if you donate through this site the Cancer Council will send you a tax deductable receipt for donations over $2.00. The site is shown below. The site will remain open until 31 December 2010 so donations can be made up to then.
Any support you chose to make will be greatly appreciated.
More pictures will be added to frighted and horrify people as time passes.

Hi Ya, Well, it is now only
Well, it is now only 18 days to the big shave. Yep, it all comes off 20 November. Quite a few people have sponsored me already and I am most appreciative of that. For anybody else that might be interested the link to the WA Cancer Council web site is shown above.
I will be posting up the after pics so if you want another fright (that is after the fright from the 'before' pic) go back after 20 November.
I've actually had a guy ask me if he can have the offcuts. Apaprently he has restored an old rocking horse and wants my hair to make the mane for it. What a laugh. I have agreed especially as he did sponsor me.
Cheers.

Mate dont do it!
Dye it white and play Santa Claus for a few years youd make a whole lot more ppl happier! and pocket more than what youd raise in one event! (Or donate it to charity).
But waking up and not worrying about brushing the mop and using half a bottle of shampoo to clean it. And being able to drink from beer/softdrink cans without bringing a tear to your eye and going back to places where you made yourself a total dick is an upside.
Downside is cold ears in Winter burnt ears and neck in Summer. Not being able to re enjoy dinner. And If you stuff up or win Lotto You cant totally change your apearance in an hour..
Think about it!!!!

Hi Ya,
Well, it is all over and done with, but far from pretty. So take that as a warning and open the attached links at your risk.

Looks like we could have raised somewhere near $7000 for the two charities we supported. In addition to what is on the web sites, another $3500 in cash and cheques was received on the night. I made a big mistake and said that if any one person came up with $1000 as a single personal donation the eyebrows would go as well. Felt pretty safe until someone donated $1000.
Cheers.
PS - the web site will be open until around christmas is you would still like to support the cause.

Hi Ya,No Dale they
Hi Ya,
No Dale they don't.
Didn't tell the neighbours anything about it and went in this morning to give them 2 boxes of shampoo I won't be needing now. The oldest daughter (about 11 or 12) answered the door. After calling for her mum, she looked at me and said "Is it really you?". Nearly wet myself laughing. Mind you, her mum's reaction was pretty special too. Her dad didn't react quite so strongly but it was still amusing.
The next interesting thing will be work tomorrow. They do know about it I might add.
Cheers.

Hi Ya, One of the guys
Hi Ya,
One of the guys working here at work is ex MI-5. One of the other guys suggested I should steer clear of him because he might find someone they have been looking for for years.

The ladies here left a butter plate size sign for me to wear that simply says "Hello, I'm Owen Dyson". Thought that was quite funny and am proudly wearing it.
Thanks to everyone for your support and comments.
Cheers
