Bit of a rant

Hey guys, just wanted to have a bit of a vent and blow off some steam.

I went with the boyfriend to a fishing store (we won't name names) and when we got there I separated from him and like a bat out of hell headed for the lures. (Haven't had a heap of luck with the trolling of late so I decided a new purchase was in order) So there I was having a scan and one of their staff addressed me, "Can I give you a hand with anything?" I politely declined with, "No thanks just having a squiz at the moment" and a smile. To which I received the reply of, "Just looking at the pretty colours huh?" and he swaned away.

The original shock I had quickly turned to a seething heat and I promptly rounded up the mister and left taking my money with me (and potentially the bf's too) Now I've copped my fair share of digs on the chin being a chick but this guy just got under my skin. Not only is it unprofessional but totally uncalled for!

Needless to say I won't be returning!!

Women in fishing

That kind of thing is inexcusable and they don't deserve your business.

I'm amazed that there are blokes out there that still think / act this way in today's world. Unbelievable.

I made a genuine mistake last night down at Yanchep Lagoon - one other person wrapped up and fishing in the drizzle in the dark and I wandered down and in my deepest man voice said "how's it goin' mate? any luck?"

To my surprise it was a blond haired lass that looked up and answered me.

People still make the assumption that fishing is a man's sport when in reality it is the ultimate family pastime and it is this accessibility that makes it so attractive to so many people.

these days there are so many places to get fishing gear , you would think that anyone working in these places would act in a professional manner. imo that is far from professional. good onya for walking straight out of there. i would have done the same thing if they spoke to my wife that way. no need for it at all

You should have given him both barrels and let the shop manager know why as well. That sort of treatment is way out of line.

Yep, pass it on to management, that kind of attitude is no good at all.

my wife bless her is good at responding to that sort of comment. 20+ years in construction, she sorts them out.

Next time Navygirl give it to them and then tell them where to stick it.

no business wants that sort of reputation. If confronting them is an issue write to the management and ask for an apology and what they are prepared to do about it.

I personally would not be happy about it if it was myself treated that way. I would go nuts thinking about it also

Do they put all them pretty colours on them to catch fish or fishermen?

OOPS! i mean fisher peopleEmbarassed...

The worse thing halco done was bring out The colour King brown..

You cant help feeling kinda duped, thinking i got 2 king browns for the price of a Carton

Any way Navy girl i wouldnt worry too much bout it.

Because unless your a regular in his shop and spend money on a regular basis they can be obnoxious no matter what sex you are!

Maybe buisiness is slowing down and hes sick of people walking in and out not buying anything because hes got a crap range and is overpriced..

Crikey it's simple

The pink lures are for the girls and the blue ones for the boys, just like the rods.  Any another colours are for mixed genders or for those uncertain.

I was about to say the same

Mon, 2010-08-02 09:00

I was about to say the same thing, I say it to my mates when i see them looking at lures. Maybe he was just trying to have a bit of a laugh. Having said that, i wasn't there so I dont know. but if there is a problem you should probably talk to him, talking to his boss and gettin him in the shit or sacked for something you may have taken the wrong way will just make his life shitty for no real reason.

So was I

Sun, 2010-08-01 20:38

I was looking at squid jigs today, and quess what, I was looking at the colours. It does get hard at times for a guy to be able to say something to the opposite sex with out putting ones foot in it.

I once saw a book in Myers "Things you can say to a woman and not get into trouble. On opening the book I found every page blank.

(ok I'll duck for cover...)

but good on you girl, best fly-fishing instructor I ever met was a lady and boy could she cast a fly onto a $1 coin from 20m with ease.

Maybe im out on a limb here

Tue, 2010-08-03 06:55

But im in with the other posters who have said they are there to look at the colours.

How many posts have we had on here about staff in BCF or other tackle stores being useless or not interested in serving you?

At least the staff member in this case actually approached you to offer assistance.

I dunno about the comment at the end, as others have said not being there, its hard to tell.  But comming from more than 10 years in retail and sales it is really easy to be misunderstood.

sorry to bring up an old

Sat, 2010-08-14 23:39

sorry to bring up an old post but just seen this one.

I reckon if your working in retail you gotta be carefull what you say, a statement like that is dangerous to say to anyone and to a female perhaps even more so because of the possible percieved implications.

Even if you give the bloke every benefit of the doubt, its a bit of a stupid thing to say I reckon lol
