Bloody car insurance

9 years with the same insurance mob, put the 100 series yearly insurance up$700. What a joke. Called them up got the ahh things have gone up we'll give you a discount $100??? Told them I'm out. Found the same policy $1150.00. So much for loyalty and looking after your customers.

Same

Mon, 2024-02-19 14:31

Just had the same issue with my 100 series with RAC for years no change in anything and policy just went up 20% this month. Asked the question and got a whole load of reasons none of which would be applicible to me.

Been with them for years but now I am about to shop the 4 policies I have with them around to look at a better deal.

Out of interest who did you go with Livewire ?

Mon, 2024-02-19 15:29

There is no such thing as loyalty with insurance companies and you are a sucker if you just renew.

Every year for each car policy, i get a quote for:

Myself (39m) as a driver only

My wife (37f) as a driver only

My self as primary and wife as secondary

My wife as primary and self as secondary.

Every price is different.

Interestingly, i did the same for my folks car (04 Prado) and we are more expesive than them for coverage.

They had been with RAC but got a better price from Youi

I was told by AAMI a few years back that female drivers between 35 and 40 will get a higher rate as they are more likely to be distracted by a child in the back seat than a bloke of the same age.

Our home and one car is with AAMI,

One claim over ~16 years at home (fence) and two against two cars (one written off due to hail, and someone reversed into me) and all were paid out with fuss.

Mon, 2024-02-19 18:27

Club 4x4 tried it on with me a couple of years ago policy went up by around a grand with no claims, came up with a $150 discount so phoned around and have used Shannons ever since as they where the same price as I was paying. Mine is around $ 1800 a year but is on a dual cabbed 200 series with a lot of shit on it.

RAC have done the same with boat insurance

Mon, 2024-02-19 21:46

Massive increases, it is almost like they want to quit boat insurance completely.  Their performance financially compared with other insurers has been pretty poor so their reinsurance may well have taken a huge hit.

I just had the same thing

Tue, 2024-02-20 06:02

I just had the same thing with Coles home insurance. Monthly premium jumped from $190 to $440 per month which is $3k per year. Rang them and was told it was because my building estimate had gone up and because I made a claim last year. Appears I am being punished for daring to access the fundamental function of an insurance company yet they also don't mind slugging me extra to cover claims for people over east who continue to live in flood plains. Tossers.

Have gone with Hollard through my CBA account with far superior portable item coverage for $225 per month until I can have a proper look around.

 Come up north house

Tue, 2024-02-20 06:09

Come up north house insurance will cost you about $8000 per year even though we build our houses properly. Insurance companies don't seem to care about that though.

I meant to add that I just received a refund from QBE

Tue, 2024-02-20 07:56

They apparently wrongly calculated a discount last renewal .......bloody nice to receive a cheque for over $150 when not expecting it.

The real issue here is the fact that the huge losses from eastern states weather events have to be paid by someone .......glad I am retired from the industry, they even rang me and asked if I would like to get back into claims as they were inundated with claims ......bugger that !  No way

I actually asked that.

"Last time you told me my premium went up drastically due to the eastern states weather evens so why isn't my $4k claim also being spread across your members rather than slugging me an additional $3k per year to recoup your claim payout?"

She just continued to read from some script and not answer the question.

Makes me think it's worth doing a ring around or talking to a broker. House, contents, 3 cars and a boat. Must be some savings to be had.

 Always nice to save some

Tue, 2024-02-20 22:28

Always nice to save some coin, but insurance is not always all about the $'s. It's important to make sure your policy meets your needs... For instance, did you know that at least 1 insurer mentioned in this chat does not cover your boat if it is parked on the street or verge outside your house!!! This clause may not be an issue for some, but may be of serious concern for others... make sure you know what you are paying for so that you can make an informed decision.

Curious to know how that works where my boat is backed up to my house with the hitch technically on the verge (in line with the power pole and letter box), but not the boat...

Wed, 2024-02-21 11:16

And they lost, their bloody advertising actually shows a boat on a driveway.  BUT with smaller and smaller housing blocks this really does become an issue from a legal standpoint

Sat, 2024-02-24 21:03

I had my last boat insured with Rac. In the driveway behind a gate in karratha it was fully covered for cyclone damage. If I took it to the cyclone rated workshop it wasn't. Made no sense.

 Interesting because my boat

Mon, 2024-02-26 14:37

Interesting because my boat is RAC as well and normally stored inside my property.

But last couple of times away I have put it in my mates shed to get out of the sun and notified them each time.

The last time they said it wasnt necessary to call them each time if it was temporary as it was probably safer there than outside at my house.

In writing as well

Mate was asking for new insurance cover for his 2 rentals in Carnarvon 4 years back. I told him the son had gone with Suncorp for his place in Exmouth and saved over $1800, he got in touch with them and saving was just short of 6 grand for the two houses compared to his previous insurer

 What conversion was done?
I have my chopped and repowered 105 Landcruiser with Shannons, have only claimed a malicious damage once (passenger window) no prob.

But every year they bump it up considerably and I ring them and it comes back down to only a little more than previous.

You have asked the wrong question

Sun, 2024-03-03 10:44

On "your driveway" ......will it WHOLLY be inside the line of your letterbox and hence legally inside your boundary.  If so shouldn't be an issue with ANY insurer, however if parked even partially beyond the limit of your property .....in legal terms on the verge .....then that makes coverage particularly for theft even with forced entry to the boats cab very problematical

QBE

I have 2 cars and house and contents with additional protection on my fishing gear and rifles, V8 Jeep $46 a month, work ute $42 a month (last model of the Crewman) house and extra cover contents $56 a month, 33 years with them, 2 cars written off plus 1 car crash (front quarter panel, suspension and door repaired, all my fences (about 100m) my Dyson Vac when I backed the Jeep over it, hot water system (I jack knifed my trailer into it) My boat and motor, 2 year old Ali with a 15 hp Mercury on it when one car got written off , my car broke down and we walked 5km home and the cops rang me and told me my car was on fire, I asked about my boat and motor on the trailer and they said there was no boat on the trailer so that is out there somewhere, even my wifes diamond engagement ring when she lost it gardening, and a $5000 patio damaged in a storm a few years back, I have had permanent 60% no claim bonus for over 10 years now , I started off with Western underwriters then they morphed into western QBE and now just QBE, I have never even had a company person come to check the damage, I just sent in 3 different quotes on the job to be done, I even quoted for one fence job myself and got it, my ABN got me that one as I was a business owner, they were going to put us (2 adults & 2 kids) up in a hotel when I whacked the water heater (up to 7 days the woman that I contacted at QBE said) they got me a new one put in the next day, most claims had a $100 excess but now it has gone up to $250 per claim.

I sent a picture of all my fishing gear in my shed and another of my shooting gear and they said they are covered 100%.

Ring

Sun, 2024-03-03 22:17

The Dyson vac and engagement ring were a suprise (a real hail Mary shot), if anything happens at home we allways ring the insurance to see if it's covered, a brand new phone went thru the wash and they would not cover it so I asked the person how much to get insurance to cover that kind of loss and it was like $25 a year more so I got that added to the policy but have not had to use it since my phone went for a swim but it is there if something ever hapens like that again and phones etc are starting to cost more than a good computer, and they all die if they go thru a full wash cycle.

they told me that because I have been such a long term customer that the no claim bonus is for life and I can make as many claims as I want / can and I will have the bonus and not raise my payment for making a claim, good way to keep policy owners on their books, under $ 200 a month for everything is perfect for me.

I allways read the little book that comes when they change something with the policy, I recomend every one to check what is covered by their insurance, I asked if my Jeep was covered if offroading and they said the only time it's not is if it is somewhere you can't go/be, if it gets swallowed when stuck on a beach and the tide comes in, it's covered, have a roll over in the sand dunes it's covered . Sometimes you have to pay the extra to get the policy you need.

cheers Brendan.

I had a brand new camera that I had just bought stolen out of my car the night I got it and I tried everything to try to help me out then I remembered mastercard offers insurance on purchases and 3 days later a new camera got delivered (I paid $1000 for it way back in 2004 so it is a good camera) and no excess was charged so no out of pocket loss, I was WOOO HOOO for a while after that happened.
