Boat rebuilds
Submitted by Kingfisher549 on Fri, 2009-11-27 13:21
Seems every second member of Fishwrecked either has or is modifying their boats from minor repairs to complete rebuilds.
Is it time to have a comp to see who has been the MADDEST person to rebuild a boat in 2009?

Final shots and all finished. Other than a small low bow rail around the front.
Side shot.
Handles like a dream. Launched it on the weekend and spent the day in Mindarie having fun with the blessing of the fleet.

Nice little CC there Rod
Hey Guys,
My first post on fishwrecked... so I might as well introduce myself and my boat. Boat is a 1978 16.5ft Penguin Phantom. The photo's tell the story really. Took me 9 months to restore. Did all myself except for the windscreens. Beta marine windows did a good job.
Just getting into crabbing, dhuie's and snapper now... from NZ a 2 years ago, so just getting to know the area.

Nice boat Haydz.
Lots of effort, time and money, as well as facilities. Wish I had all of those. how does your boat travel in the water?

Hi Rod P and Haydz you have both done a good job with your boats. They look fantastic.
Our boat 'Bluebone' has also been rebuilt by hubby. We took it in stages. The first part was to rebuild the interior with seating and hatches, battery compartments. We also replaced the front glass , the fuel tank and motor. Laid the carpet and had the cushions made and fitted chart plotter/fishfinder.
Last Christmas hubby repainted the exterior of the boat and we applied the decals. The only thing that has not changed it the hull which was reinforced with more glass when we replaced the fuel tank. We love the old girl and really enjoy our time on the water.

Yeah, not to sure what to do about it. You can't work in the sun presently, you will just get baked.

Bluebone that interior looks
Bluebone that interior looks mint!! And with a new motor and paint I'm sure will last another 30 years. What hull is it? Looks like a baron, but i've never seen one.
Only job I really have left it painting the undersides.. but now its sea worthy I feel guilty not using it.
Ian.... yeah facilities are a must. My gf wasn't too happy about kicking the horses out of the stables for 7 months. She rides pretty well. Prefers a following sea. Its actually quite a light boat for its age and tends to slam a bit in short chop.
If anyone has a late model 90 Etec that they want to donate me, i'll happilly take it off your hands. Can't justify buying a new motor at the moment though.
Keep the rebuilds coming!! Can't get enough of seeing the mods!

Hi Haydz Blubone's hull is a custom made that came originally from Albany. The whole boat rebuild has been an ongoing project for about 3 yrs. I actually do not have any pics of the original condition but we basically ripped everything out and started again. The hull is great on the water and rides the chop and swell well.

Not a full rebuild
Rebuilding the floor and guts of an old regent princess, plenty of pics that i may put up once its finished. It was goin to be a full rebuild/restoration but with the good weather coming along quickly it'll be a race to get it rock solid again and cosmetics will come after summer.
