Braid Casting
Submitted by nightfish on Mon, 2011-03-07 20:39
Can anybody please tell me what the secret to casting a Mono wind on leader is? I have 15kg Braid attached to 22 Kg Mono Leader and every second cast creates a loop in the braid or a knot that stops the cast dead on a runner.
I have tied with an improved albright trimmed as close to the knot as possible.
Any help would be great! stop me pulling $80 worth of braid off and replacing.

change knots
try the bimini to GT knot for casting heavy mono or fluro leaders. There is also the PR, FG knots. These knots may seem a little technical and time consuming in the beginning but in a short time the'll be second nature.

Yeah I use the PR knot to connect braid to mono leader.
Even with 80lb braid on to 200lb mono leader I can still get good distance on the casts (thats with quite a bit of leader on the spool)
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I have been using a knot called the slim beauty knot, instructions can b found on google,
I use it for both soft plastic spinning and beach casting and it works good for me
