went and fished off the lime stone wall last night from 9.30-1.00
tried on the south side of bridge and around where the wall finishes and where the beach starts. Caught 2 undersize bream (~10cm & ~20cm) and blowies EVERY other cast. ...at least the resident rat enjoyed them
I caught 6 bream the other afternoon/night in the swan. The biggest one I caught was 20cm long, so nothing that can be taken home for dinner but it was fun. I also caught several tiny little fish, a couple of other fish I didn't recognise and around 20 blow fish.
I was using mainly prawn and a little bit of squid.
used to catch alot of bream around the ascot area anda few in guildford. havent been outsince well before christmas. will be hitting it hard now as the swan fish is coming up soon.
When targeting bream, look for structure, like around the South of Perth Yacht Club, the pylons that run through the Shelley area, and Canning bridge. In particular older structures that farm muscles. I know when I take my dinghy under Canning, I can usually see a few bream feeding.
I am a complete novice and I live in guildford. I want to do some fishing for bream. When is the best time of day to go fishing? High tide low tide? What kind of set up should I be using? Would it be better to fish from my kayak or the shore?
Would it be worth it to buy a fish finder?
I have been fishing before but we never catch anything besides blowies. I would like to learn how to fish.
Head west on the north bank from the west swan road for bout 500 m and theres plenty of snags to fish from. My fav spot is marked with two white bricks under a tree. Flick a whole unweighted river prawn in and set the rod down, wait for the hits and strike when the fish runs. I like morns this time of year but I have caught them any time or tide even at night. Great quiet spot to relax
yep, freshwater bay, gotta look for the right spot ;) me and a mate landed 17 sized black and silver bream using unweighted mussels, you gotta find a place where nobody goes
Fished Maylands 3 times last week mostly at the Yacht Club straight out from the observation tower and got fish every time. Nothing of any real size though. Also got a 30cm Flattie.
Used unshelled prawns. Blowies seemed to move in with the strong sea breeze. Did see one guy with bigger fish and he was using cockles as bait. Don't know what he did with them but he was putting the hook through the shell!
Never fished the swan river for bream but from my time chasing them down south sometimes if the small ones were thick, id use the heads from whiting and herring. Mussels or pippis also the go. anything soft will get smashed by the smaller ones. Durable bigger baits will buy the larger bream time to hit it. I also would leave the bail arm open and let it run 2 or 3 times. Stike to early you guarantee not to hook up. Otherwise try the vibez type lures.
Maylands going ok, got a couple of 35cm bream there last week - unusually not close in near the snags, we were castting in the little trench which is about 2-3metres depth, unweighted qtr mulie with a long shank hook. tried something different and it worked.
go for a little walk out into the shallow water and start digging in the sand about 10-20cm deep and ya will find pippies i recon there perfect bait for bream as ya see them digging for them in the flats all the time haha never caught a blowwie on em before because of there shell and the bream just seem to love em :) if theres a fishhyy in the area and ya drop a pippie in the water ya gonna have a tight line :)

Bream
I saw an undersized bream taken under the canning bridge the other day if that helps?
Apparently the Maylands area is going well right now.

Mt Henry Sat 09/01/2010
Went down to Mt Henry off the Jetty with my Wife, 11 year old Son & 5 year old Daughter.
I just bought the little one a pink tackleratz ugly stik combo.
Both me & boy used SP, whilst the little one used prawns. (with Mum doing the baiting)
We got nothing and lost the tails of our SP's to the blowies.
The little one hauled in 14 blowies and one Bream !!! of about 18-20cm.
Broke her heart when we returned it.
Both me and boy are now asking her for pointers !!!!!

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Heeps of bream around shelley near the sailing club. Most undersized but can find the odd one out. Lots of structure so watch out for snags
