Bream/flathead lures for summer

well my school finishes early (Which I think is awesome) in 2 weeks, and I will have a lot of spare time (I really mean a lot). So I'm thinking of going for some bream and flathead on lures, perfecting my technique. I have decided that the next lure I'm getting is definately the cranky crab. I find you can't beat the natural crabs under rocks for bait, getting a way bigger average size bream, I think it's only a matter of time before I start getting close to that 40cm bream using this bait. Anyway I am not sure what colour crab I should get but I'm only getting one because I want to get a few lures.

i have already got an army of soft plastics so I don't need to stock up on them I don't think.

i have 2 atomic hardz breamshads which are 40mm that are clear with a re eye, should they work? I might get an SX-40.

any other lures to add to my collection?

 If you are fishing off

If you are fishing off jetties, can't beat the baby vibes dropped straight down along the pylons. I've been using the smallest ones, I think it's the 35mm. Been catching a few bream on them last few weeks. If the current is a little strong for the vibes, I switch to a small blade lure.

Hope that helps.

As you mentioned Lachie, the SX-40 is worth a try. I had a bit of success with one down between Castledare and Kent St which was in the 392 colour I think....or very similar anyway looking at their colour chart. Quite pricey though, but there are cheaper copies you could try off eBay if you like to cast at trees occasionally like me. There's nothing worse than seeing a $20 lure hanging out of a tree! I'd be interested to hear how you go with the Cranka Crab if you get one. Seemed to be a big buildup to their release then it all went quiet so haven't really heard how they went. As the guys mentioned, the little vibes are meant to be really good but I've never really spent much time using them.

Flathead will take almost anything you throw at them if you spend the time just walking the flats and are often a bycatch while targeting bream anyway. Great eating though so worth the effort if you catch some

A cheap version of the SX-40

A cheap version of the SX-40 is the kokoda sprog (I think it's called, been a while since I used one). They're around $7 at BCF

Hardbodies

With the vibes id recommend the duo bivi in gold/orange. There a little more expensive than the other brands but they have a really tight vibration and are dynamite for both bream and flatties.

For flatties hardbodies like Pontoon21 CrackJack 48sp in carmen red or bloody tiger prawn and the Zipbait Zhamsin tiny do well. On the high tide they willl also take surface lures with a paused retrive.

With the cranka crabs just match the colour to the ones your catching as bait.

Cheers.
