bulk bait

Well the anual boys trip to shark bay is just over a week away, done the tackleshop stock up (spent alot more than anticipated) booze and food sorted. Only other thing is bait, normally will just do a big shop at bcf few days before, but thort id see where everybody buys there bait in bulk? we go through a fair bit of it up there so any saving would be good, but more interested in quality/freshness. We take a freezer up solely for baits so storing isnt a big deal but they do tend to get a bit mushy towards the end of the trip. as always appreciate the advice cheers

Haha so it was, we go through nanga and camp the beach at talama station. Got my mates private camping spot for the week, has a half shack frame there that we are actually going to take building gear and improve a bit between fishing.

Camping

Mon, 2015-04-06 08:32

Just checked out the map Niko and you are camping right in the south of the bay. The Nanga homestead is to the north, on the east side of the bay, just off the Denham road. Not sure of the distances there but i'm told we will be fishing around those islands just north of your camp when the weather is up a bit. If i can talk the others into it i will cruise down to the beach to swap fishing lies with you..lol

 Not quite, the homestead is

Mon, 2015-04-06 09:20

Not quite, the homestead is to the far south. But our campsite is further along and curves north, if u look on the map we are halfway up the second point a direct line south from denham. we are about and hr and a half from the denham road along useless loop road. Not sure where nanga homestead is but we probably be directly across from u. Weve never fished those islands usually head north from our camp to a few reefs and small islands. Theres an island off the tip of the first point furthest south weve been, popular spot but beautiful and fish everywhere. Yeh mate if u see a 570trailcraft halfcab with a 610 trailcraft center cab quite possibly flying a pirate flag thats us haha we beach launch from our camp so theyll be ancored up near the beach if we arent out

Hit up the shark bay fish

Mon, 2015-04-06 07:43

Hit up the shark bay fish factory and get a box of whiting heads. If I recall it was about 12$ for a five kilo box.

Have just come back from S/B

Mon, 2015-04-06 09:26

Although we had whiting heads from the Fish Factory most of our fish were taken on mullet, also from there. We found that the fish did take the heads but prefered the mullet. Never caught any size pinkies but did catch a few decent black snapper with the biggest at 57cm.

Good luck and I hope the weather stays kind for you.

 Cheers for all the help

Mon, 2015-04-06 09:45

Cheers for all the help guys, got a few things lined up now and ill do a bit of a scout  around next sunday and hit a few places mentioned. Plan is to leave wednesday morning but that may have been delayed to thursday so ill bave a spare day for last minute suplies at least.

never used mullet up there in all honesty so thats worth a try unfortunately we dont hit denham on our way as it would add 2 hrs to our trip plus shopping time. So i might look at some of the above mentioned and see if they have mullet aswell. See if i can upgrade a few pbs. there were some big blackies last year aswell dont think we got near 57cm thats big. But we cracked 50 a few times, got to a point where we made a personal size limit upgrade to 40-45plus haha. Pinkies were quite last yr tho.

I have heard the mullet are killer size up there. A good net will be going with us when we head up.

Yep, the net does the trick

Mon, 2015-04-06 10:40

People from the CPBA we met up there used one from the beach at Denham and picked up a swag of mullet. in a very short time. We bought ours and yes they were a good size even though they had been filleted. Go on the hook real well. We tried using shark mackie that we had caught that day but the skin was tough as hell and the flesh just broke up so no damned good! Belly flaps were ok though.
