Bunbury cut, navigable ?

Hi guys, great forum with lots of good advice. What are your thoughts on navigating the cut at Bunbury. I have previously dropped dropped my 4.8M Coast Runner in at the Australind ramp and headed out through the cut, sometimes had to wait to check how the sets are forming, occasionally had to run in on the back of wave but never had a drama. But I haven't been through for a fair while and I know there is a warning out regarding the bars in and outside the cut, also a mate of mine with a 6M Assassin says it is too risky. The kids are coming out with me now so I generally only go out in good conditions, I expect its worse when the tide is running out against the sea breeze, how deep is it just outside, is it OK to use with caution or should I just use the town ramps in case condions change while we are out.

the documentation from the DPI is to navigate with caution. I think it comes from clowns that dont respect the differing conditions. If you are unsure use the town ramps. I think the powerboat club is the closest to you. I have navigated it fine just a week ago in my 6.4m fibreglass SeaHunt.

just go around the bar either way. left hand side is safer. there is about 800mm of water over the bar on most tides and it does break with a bit of swell. looks worse than it is though.
