Bush Mechanics
On the way up to Exmouth last week i snapped my clutch cable at Woormerell Roadhouse last week 500 odd kms from Exxy, this did not cause any delays on my journey, a couple folks asked me how you drove with no clutch ?
Its simple but the most important thing is put the car in first gear before you start then turn the key,the car will kangaroo hop a couple meters and then you are fine,,change the gears as you would normally letting them find there own way in not forcing them in,,changing down is a bit tricker you may have to blip the accelerator to keep the revs high (the lower the gear the higher the revs).
When you want to come to a stop, get fuel etc put it in neutral and use your brakes to stop where required,,,when you do stop you need turn the engine off and put back into 1st gear again to get going.
If you are towing a large boat i would imagine you need to be on level ground or a slight incline for best results,i tried on a very slight incline,,the starter motor did not have the oommpp to get it started.
When i got a new clutch cable i had to remember to use the clutch
While i was away my sister did the head gasket in my old ute,it would overheat in a few minutes of driving after a while,,it gradually got worse,,mechanic said put some stop leak in and its been running as normal (this is only a short term fix tho)theres a few instrutions you have to follow on the bottle but the mechanic said just pour it in and it worked.
Any more tips or comments welcome,it might help folks on the road.

Yeah i had a kombi,it was a model that was known for splitting crank cases (single port motor ?)
I drove it for 6 months with no brakes, which was not very smart but i used the gears to slow down plus the handbrake and had no probs, the reason it had no brakes was that i snapped a clutch cable and when fitting a new one i must of rerouted it over a brake line and sawed a holed in it over time,,,
Another tip on older cars, if you snap the accelerator cable jam a bit of wood at the cable near the carby so the motor is revving really high, then you can drive normally but will get some strange looks at the lights
