Buying Electronics from the USA

I am still looking long and hard for a new GPS/Sounder combo. I have found two places in the US that have what I want at a bulls@#t price. One is "THE DIGITAL OASIS" and the other is "UNIVERSAL MANIA". Does anyone know of either of these two companies or have you had any experiences buying overseas?

i was seriously considering

i was seriously considering the overseas option but ended up finding pretty good prices locally (bought myself a lowrance combo recently). i'm not an ebay hater or anything but i found it's definitely worth checking with your local places before you buy. i found they were able to come pretty close to the overseas prices (no freight) if you just ask them. other things to consider are warranties and also help/customer service/install advice etc. if anything is faulty i can imagine an o/seas one might be a nightmare to replace where as a local one you'd probably just swap it over the counter. up to you of course, best of luck mate

Snappermiles....Can you elaborate more on the Lowrance potential problem...I had been thinking about that, I`m assuming its just with the GPS side of things right?

geofencing

lowrance has installed a program so if you import a unit from the US it will constantly flash a message across your unit whist in gps mode! the only way you can fix this is by sending it to lowrance to get them to fix it! which is meant to be big dollars! as said some dealers from canada and china dont have the same problem!! you need to look for units with world background maps not ones that have usa insight maps!

Should be more specific as to

Should be more specific as to what unit you were considering...I've dealt with Digital Oasis all good...as snapper says geofencing is a issue with lowrance , however if you can find a canadian supplier from memory I dont think their units are locked
