If you subscribe, you keep your maps (somewhat) private, although navico does use the information.

If you dont subscribe, anyone can see your maps and where youve been. Probably not really an issue for where i fish.

I do like the additional details in the maps, but at the end of the day, i just cant be assed recording, copying and generating maps after every trip.

I use it a lot, the level of detail is exceptional and is extremely useful for fishing and even more so for placing pots in cray season.

Until the drawbacks became apparent. This system was intially designed for use in inland lakes and waterways, to build custom maps where there was no real bathygraphic information available. So it isn't much use if there is any swell, just distorts the results. So you need to have a flat calm to get a useful map of the area. And you'd better get it right the first time--You can only submit one set of mapping for an area. You neeed to do fairly tight zig-zags across the area, making sure you have overlap. I could see it being useful inside   Shark bay. I did get a couple of good maps off it, and intended to keep going, but the time involved in doing it right is a killer, and then I moved up from Lowrance, so it was all for nothing.

I get excellent info nowadays from the navionics chart on the Axiom, when I  select Fishing Charts as the option.
