Camping/Fishing Harvey easter long w.e

Gday all,

Me and my brothers want to head down to harvey for the long w.e, we figure its close enough that we might be able to beat some of the rush if we head down thursday, and theres a good chance of getting a fish in the dam or river.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for us, eg good spots for camping, good spots/tips for fishing etc.

also are there currently fire restrictions? do we have to cook on  a little flimsy gas thingo?

lastly if anyone is going to be down there and wants to meet up for a fish please let me know. Have had limited success casting little celtas before so if anyone feels like offering some advice it would be much aprpeciated.

cheers,

make sure you have one, you'll need it to be able to fish down there. If you have a dinghy and a leccy motor/oars (no petrol engines allowed), you can troll scorpion 35's or the like but if not, you can still work the shoreline casting them around as per my very basic mud map for the Harvey Dam below. (troll the purple areas if you have a boat, walk the banks and cast in the green areas, plus the sticks is not a bad spot - I love the structure)

the Harvey rainbow caravan park was nice, have stayed there a few times.

take some warm clothes - it gets flippin cold down there at night, you'd be surprised.

Yeh my old man cant make it, hes got the 4x4 setup with all the camping gear so it looks like we might get a chalet or somehitng at the rainbow park.

Thanks for the map, we'll be restricted to shore base so yeh gonna wander around casting spinners and scorpions. my brother has jsut got a fly rod so we'll all have fun teaching ourselves how to cast that one.

the sticks does look fishy!!! im gona head there for sure

secret spot just for you

the point just to the right of the boat ramp is a dynamite spot. my avatar pic is me fly fishing that spot. I see many land based fishos catch a fish there and have also nailed a number myself. I'd try that first before walking the bank towards the sticks.

Also, you'll get more rises in the afternoon than in the morning. Fly fishing in this period is very productive in comparison to soft plastics/hardbodies. Fish that point I mentioned above around then - there is a kind of a bay and the fish cruise around in there, so make sure you have the polaroid glasses on to see them.

thanks for the info, ive never fished there before so its a big help. like i said we've never touched a fly rod before so i rekon we'll have a few laughs trying to figure it out between ourselves and a beer or two.

and we might head to myalup too, hopefully we can fit the beach rods into the little diahatsu charade :D with all the fishing gear we probly wont be able to fit any clothes or blankets ahha
