I heard local coppers were talking to people at the ramp
Up here this morning, couldn't verify what it was about. I pulled my pots in yesterday. Out of interest, went down late this afternoon to see if the barricades were up . No barricades, but a little A4 sheet, laminated, on the DOT letterhead was saying, Boaties, anchor at home for now, or words to that effect.

There must be something
There must be something special going on for the governments to react this way. Im sure we are getting told the truth by the govt and media (sarcasm).
I see both sides of the argument but my balls are dangling on the 'fishing is ok for a feed' side of the fence.

i think they should be saying
i think they should be saying yes , u can go fishing if you can tick a few sensible boxes ...
your fishing alone or with 1 other from your household ,
put some social distancing changes in place at ramps to slow peeps down and create seperation ,
i usually go for a beach fish by myself , just for herring , i take a breadcrumb burley , no bait just use flouro tube etc and drive to the beach alone ,,
how is that a risk ? same with the boat , we stocked up on fuel in jerrys , have bait in freezer, no stops required and beach launch ??
cant see the harm in that myself ??
they have stoped golf , as well , even with closed clubhouses , yet surfing , swimming and riding are all ok ??
what happens when a surfer needs an ambo or a bike rider gets clipped and needs an ambo ? no diffeerence to marine rescue and many of those are just tow in ?
some illogical decisons being made imo
and im asthmatic , so i get the low immunity fear, but shit you still have to live and manage your mental health of the population as well imo

I think it is pretty hard for a one rule fits all, living in lancelin 100m from a beach launch or 5 minute drive from a lonely stretch of beach. It is hard to resist, so far i have stayed at home, but wont hesitate when its required for food and mental health. Very hard when you fish several times a week normally.

Perth is out of our region, so we do need a reason to cross the border at Wilbinga. I take my products to the airport for work once a week so no problem for me.

I went out to
Northam yesterday for a job and the checkpoint going east is where the Great Southern Highway starts (about 15km east of Mundaring).
A couple of army guys and police all over it.

Well put as always hezzy
Only reason other boat fishing was closed in other country /states was due to volunteer rescue guys not going in ( fair call). I phoned rescue i am with . They said they have got a heap of safety plans in place regarding distancing ect. If someone needs help . As far a they where concerned business as usual . That was few days ago . If they close common sence would say no go .

Pretty much my view of it.
BUT, unfortunately, some spoil it for the rest. Going to a deserted beach should be fine, but then you see scenes like Bondi before they closed it. Fishing from a boat, with just the person you live with, working from a very quiet ramp, like ours, should be fine, physical distancing at its finest. Go straight from home to the ramp, less than a K away. Boat was fuelled some time ago, fuel for weeks for modest trips/pulling pots, ute the same. No trips to the shop for bait, etc. Up here, we should be fine. But you see the scenes reported at the suburban ramps, well, you've screwed it en masse for the rest of us. The lack of VMR , closed over a week ago up here, is not a problem for us, as long as we are within a few miles of the river, within reliable phone coverage, as a mate with a boat can just come and get us at least as VMR could, probably quicker. And we look out for each other by keeping the VHF on anyway. Trips further afield could be covered by having at least two boats together.
But, one set of rules for all, right? When you apply rules, or even guidelines, there will always be winners and losers. Every one on Newstart gets a much-needed income boost, I am effectively out of work. Even though I am still on the books, because of travel restrictions and the fact that , as my work involves face to face with classrooms full of candidates, I choose to minimise the risk of picking it up and giving it to my wife by staying home. I told them to forget about me until the end of June. No working from home for me. But I am not covered by any of the allowances being given. No rants here, just the way it is.
My biggest regret at the moment? Fuel is sooo cheap, even up here, and we can't go and burn it

Well Well Well what a thread.
Wouldn't normally comment but here goes.
I have been dealing with this virus at site since it all came to light. Yes lots of Chinese nationals where I work.
Hygiene was escalated quite quickly and progressively over the last few months.
What do I do. Nothing different them normal.
Keep clean, practice social distancing, Check my healthy status each day, do not hang around in public areas (not that I usually do anyway).
Go to the shops for what I need and head home.
Went for a blast on the Harley to check out the region security the other day, only stopped to get fuel on the way out.
Might go 4WD in the bush over the weekend.
May also go and drown some bait over the next week at a beach in my region.
All this will be done with little to no contact with person(s) outside of my family members living in my house.
Why? because I can!
Is this an arrogant view? Maybe Maybe not.
Keep it real folks and DO NOT STRESS.
STAY SAFE and enjoy what you can within reason.
Cheers Wes F

As I've said before, the
As I've said before, the issue isn't when things are all going well, and we are all being good. Its when something goes pear shaped. Crash your car, break down, hook in the ear, cut your hand. Our hospitals and support staff are on a knives edge at the moment, and additional stress is not what they need.
One of our own very well known FW members has a daughter in a very bad way in Hospital with this horrific virus. Its a very stressful time for them. Last thing I think they want to see is resources taken away from her to deal with un-necessary injury and trauma.
We are very fortunate that we have the freedom and flexibility to move around as we please. We just need to do it as safely and as cautiously as we can.
Just be safe and careful.....for our Services sake.

We've all heard you harp on about your message and we get it champ.
Mate if the government were serious about stopping first line responders being exposed to non necessary injured etc how about they stop all non essential car traffic. There's more chance of a car accident than a boating misshap and more exposure.
Plenty of non essential traffic on the roads this morning on my way to work along the local cafe strip, also people on bikes it goes on and on.
In my opinion local boating recreation is not a problem as long as the recommended social distancing advice is adhered to. Fuck me you could walk out the door and get run over going for your daily walk.

And where
And where is this, certainly not in Australia
Lets concentrate on what we can deal with here in Western Australia,
You are saying that the hospital system is overun with this visus at moment, TRUE
But how many Western Australian recreational fishers are taking spots in hospital wards or ICU
Or more to the point how many West Australians are taking up beds in hospital wards or ICU in WA
Keep pushing if that is what helps you, I know going fishing will also help a lot of others.

Nothing wrong with wearing your heart on your sleeve mate and in a time like this none us know what to do and draw on our personal experiences and the world around us.
Those things may vary vastly in this current climate so let's all just help each other be safe whether it be trapped in forced or self imposed isolation or planning a trip to the ramp with a plan to adhering to the social distancing guidelines which seem to be serving us well in WA.

This is my last response to you,
Where did I state what your actual career was?
Where did I state what your job was except for saying "the head of a global company"? That could be self procalimed who would know.
You sent me all your details freely, I am sure if one wants to look at Facebook, Linkedin etc we could all learn things about each other
Are you concerned now that by me stating the head of a global company perhaps you won't be anymore?
There are plenty of business owners on here who gladly and freely offer advice and also get work from it.
Not sure how big whatever company you work for is, but if it is global, perhaps they could become a site sponsor?
Just to finish off, Have a nice Sunday and, if as you state you know someone who is in a really bad way because of the virus, I like everyone on here with them a speedy recovery.

Source is DoT
Posted this today on my "Qld Fishing for Food" thread.
Below is the current response from the Department of Transport to frequently asked questions (current as at 6.18pm Friday 3 April 2020). Still well and truly "on the fence" about fishing, but the intent is again very clear.
See below common questions about recreational boating during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The following information is provided to the State’s 100,000 recreational boat owners and others who enjoy the State’s waterways using other craft.
Can I go boating?
We recommend if you don’t need to go out on your boat, then please don’t. Non-essential activities should be postponed or cancelled.
Please view State Government Directions on gatherings and social distancing.
Is there a ban on boating?
No, there has been no direction to prohibit people from going boating - but you should stay at home if the planned activity is non-essential.
Can I go kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking or take out my paddle craft?
Advice from the Federal and State Government is to stay at home unless shopping for food, going to work, exercising or attending a medical appointment. If you consider kayaking or paddling essential as a form of exercise, you should follow social distancing directions.
If boating is an essential activity, possibly for fishing or exercise, what do I need to remember?
The two-person rule applies unless you are boating with members of your family or those you live with. If boating with one person that you do not reside with, ensure you maintain social distancing (at least 1.5 metres apart). Use hand sanitiser where there is any contact with shared surfaces. If you are boating alone, please ensure you tell someone where you are going, check the weather and wear a lifejacket.
Should I do anything different at the launch ramp?
Wait your turn at the ramp and if there are two lanes, only use one to ensure social distancing. Do the same on your return to the ramp when retrieving your boat from the water. Remember to maintain social distancing and personal hygiene at all times.
Are there restrictions on where I can go boating?
Skippers should be aware of the current notices to mariners, including those in place restricting access to Rottnest Island. There are also restrictions preventing vessels crossing regional boundaries.
Can I buy fuel for my boat and other essentials?
Yes. However, in line with Government advice, you should stay at home unless shopping for food, going to work, exercising or attending a medical appointment.
Can I do maintenance on my boat at a marina?
Check with marina staff at the facility before going.
Are DoT maritime facilities open?
Yes. However, in line with Government advice, if your visit is not essential, please reconsider your need to attend.
Will there be a pause on boat registrations?
No. DoT continues to process recreational boat registrations.
Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it - LH.

I personally feel with all
I personally feel with all the job losses out there people have no choice but to sit at home and stress about what's happening with their jobs in the end . The mental strain and stress can and will cause problems within the family and if fishing is a way of removing the stress even if it's only for a few hours can make a big difference.
Some may even (sad to say it)rever t to drug use and suiside.
I have suffered in the past with mental issue e s and fishing certainly help e d me
While we can get out there within reason and help relieve the stress and boredom. Just follow the guidelines set in place.

One thing I have noted with all this discussion
Which only confirms what I have felt all along.
1)get off Facebook
2) get off Facebook
3) Refer to rules 1) and 2)
So much I have seen talked about all over the net is utter crap, propogated by Facebook. If you want up-to-date information, just stick to ABC news. Consistency of delivery and accuracy, delivered immediately. If you want opinion from Brenda the anti-vaxxer, or the silly old c**t down the road "liking" the latest conspiracy theory, or rants from very ordinary ( as in, too ordinary for words ) people about how the gubmint should be doing more/less/is taking away our freedoms/is not taking away enough freedoms/"someone should do something" , by all means, rely on FB. Even Uncles post immediately above is a sample of half-heard, misunderstood "news" . No offence Unc, but that is not nearly the whole story.

Bit of talk here about the "news".
Interesting article I came across recently about how the news works in todays world - feel free to share it with your panicked friends.

Just as an aside two blokes reported going missing off Victoria

Sorry BUT.
The only ones who are not panicked are the ones who are not affected.
Hazard a guess that if you think it's all media hype you don't know people who are directly affected, you havn't lost your job, you havn't had to tell long term employees they are no longer needed, you havn't seen your long term business grind to a halt.
I find it hard to not take offence when people like ranmar say "....it's just shit comming from FB" (not the direct quote but the guist of ranmars post above)
My feelings and a lot of others are not "manufactured by media outlets and writers" they are manufactured by real life events.
SO really. if you think this is media hype you are just VERY LUCKY

Asthmatic wife with shitty
Asthmatic wife with shitty immune system. No income in our household for the foreseeable future and no chance of the generous handouts being dished out. Significant investment into a planned new business gone. Tenant on the phone lost their job ScoMo says we have to carry them while we pay the mortgage. Kids in year 11 and 12 (who are actually trying) future uncertain - do I need to go on?
I can't imagine how anyone at any level in society could not have been affected by this in some form or another but what gets ME through the day is an attitude of gratitude - knowing that there are plenty of people out there who have go it far worse than us.
Some kid's grandparent didn't come home from their holiday for example.
Even if we lose the lot, as long as I've got my health I can always make more money.
Perhaps you missed the point of the article and my motivation for sharing it - it was meant to help.
Oh, and the easiest way to avoid being offended on the internet?
Just don't log on.
