Canal Rocks Boat Ramp needs your help!!

The Canal Rocks Action Group has organized a rally to show support to keep the boat ramp open , despite being shown that the report that the Minister has got his information from , is flawed , the government is still trying to push ahead with closing this Ramp.
Canal Rocks Ramp has been operating for 70 years with ought any major accident ( an ambulance has never been called for an accident on the ramp!), the government wishes to close the ramp due to safety concerns , if this can happen to Canal Rocks it could happen to MOST OPEN WATER RAMPS IN OUR STATE!
Canal Rocks Ramp is the only ramp in the Area servicing our small coastal community , the closure of this ramp will see the old Dunsborough ramp , Quindalup and Gracetown have to cater for the increase , all extremely busy ramps already.
The Naturaliste Volunteer Marine Rescue appose this closure as will add hour(s) to a rescue on this side of the Cape.
The Rally is happening at 3pm this Saturday (13th), Shuttle bus and parking has been organized along Canal Rocks Road , as well as our local football club putting on a sausage sizzle , there will be guest speakers including Taj Burrows and Jake Patterson .
If you Care please make the effort and be there!

I don't understand a) why close it at all and b) why they can't just put a gate on it and lock that gate when conditions are 'unsafe'. Could be done remotely. It's not hard.

Here we go

Talk about being a nanny state, the way things are heading you will not be able to cross the road without getting written approval to do so from an authorised road crossing safety officer or what ever.

Truly this stuff is getting totally out of hand, the ability of people to make up their own minds about anything is quickly being eroded by all forms of regulatory bodies.

I wonder if captain Cook was warned about sailing off into the wide blue yonder because it could become rough and he could be charged with endangering the life of his crew.

This over bearing perverse control of peoples actions is crushing individuals using their common sense and skills to undertake anything unless there is a committee formed to carry out a risk assessment of what is planned and approval is granted by a government statutory body,

People will look at the situation and quickly make an assessment of is it safe to go out or not, we may all not agree with that persons assessment but hell he/she is/was allowed to do things as they assessed the situation. We are quickly having that ability taken away from us by government actions.

yes well said meglodon , totally agree with you

canal rocks on most days is ok , like any where including hamelin and gracetown , gnarabup , windy harbour ... pick your weather and make your choice

this is totally becoming a lock it up and look state with fees at every turn
calm , depaws or whomever they are this year are in that up to their neck imo and it needs to be stopped

i used to launch there many times living down south, its a fkn long way around the cape otherwise, and to be honest when it blows a lot safer coming back in to canals (unless the sweel is big) it is a bastard of a spot yes but experienced fishos have used it for years,

i agree put a boom gate on it in winter perhaps , i mean why do they want to close it, is it for insurance purposes??, is someone worried about being sued, i was to believe it was at own risk ,

ive always wondered why they didnt make the jetty longer and even put a bend on it so boats can moore up on the inward side they walk it around, simple sloution ,

Used it many times

Tue, 2018-01-09 18:36

Used it many hundreds of times when pro fishing the area, had a few dumpings but that was my fault in trying to drive a dinghy full of fish on to the trailer with hundreds of kg on board and too small an outboard to do the job.

So all of those who can get down there for the rally please do make an attempt to get there, the ramp access depends on your efforts. I know if it was at all possible I would be there but sadly cannot. If you see the petition to save it then please sign it as it is in your interest and for other boaties as well

I only ever used it if I had a couple of others with me, was never an issue then. But in the right conditions also.

I'd deffo be there if I could. What about a simple indicator similar to the fire hazard boards. Red indicator  no go, yellow caution, green all good. I'm sure the Ranger could spare 10 mins to do this on a daily basis or is he/they too busy catching dogs in the town . Like said above I think we are all big enough to make the decision whether to use the ramp or not. FFS we all pay enough in fees.

Everyone here has their hearts in the right place here but IMO ( not being rude andy ) but fuck the indicator thing or boom gate....

Leave people to make a choice, the ocean is a well documented dangerous place ( King Waves Kill etc ), adults need to make decisions and accept the consequences.....

If you give them an inch they'll take a mile so for me it is leave it as it is otherwise the flood gates will open, lets be honest the dickheads that make decisions haven't exactly got their fingers on any pulse!!

Leave the bloody thing alone, its served its purpose for this long and lets hope it stays that way!!

I'll be there Saturday....

Summed up well Timboon the responsibility should lie with the individuals going out.
Plenty of other facilities In this state they could shut if the same logic is applied including the bullshit facilities we have in Broome.

Leave it as is, don't even fix the bloody thing up! I'm sure if they put a gate there it will just get ripped down @ some stage.

I think part the reason they want to close the Canal Rocks boat ramp is when they close the capes to inshore fishing, small boats will head out further and people will die

Plus there is a lot of Sea Shepard dickheads down there who want the area closed to fishing. Did the Dunsborough dive shop have a big Sea Shepherd sign over it for a while?
