Canopy Colours - black too hot ?

Just got the boat back from getting the barwork done and off to the canopy mob tomorrow.

I was originally going to get it done in the same light blue, but started thinking of a colour change.

Especially when I saw nearly every budget tinny coming out of the trim shop across the road with the same light blue.

Anyone who's had anything to do with the boat says to get it black.

It'd probably be the best suited colour too, but I always thought it'd be too fuggin hot...... and a bitch to keep clean (salt / bird shit etc)

But it can't be too bad, a huge number of new boats I've seen in various shops have either black or really dark blue canopies.

Surely if it was that hot there wouldn't be so many boats around sporting black ?

So I started thinking I'd go white (ish) instead.

Anyone here got black & regret it ??

PS : figured I'd post here as it gets more reads than the boating section.

Black

Stick with black, unless of course it doesnt match the rest of the boat. It is a breathable material and so long as you have air moving around it you will not find a problem.

We have had black and blue and there is no difference...except black looks better.

Cheers

Brad

Thanks, yeah black would go pretty well I think.

Boat is mainly white, with narrow light blue strip up the side.

But there's plenty of black - dark screens with black frames, black gunwhale rubber, big black suzuki.

i.e. the boat in my profile pic.

Here it is with the new bar work :

My folk's have a black car and its easily several degrees hotter inside than the silver one. You just burn when you get in it.

I've got dark grey marine carpet on my boat floor, and it gets fuggin hot too, which really got me doubting the black canopy.

I have never fished under a black canopy, although many times under a dark blue.

No probs whatsoever, same as anything though if there is no breeze you will sweat.

However, no direct sun on your barnet is always a good thing.

Black!?!?

Sun, 2011-12-04 21:42

My whole freakin boat is black. When it's hot, it's hot; when its cold, its cold. Don't think it makes too much difference.

Want to cool down? Jump in the drink.

Problem solved!

Go the Black!!

Mate I've got black - its great, when you re fishing the black is never even hot as there is good airflow around the canopy. I've added a u shaped ali tongue to the back of the rocket launcher so it can be removed when you want . It sits inside the line of the gunwhales so that when hooked up there is no way you can hit the rod on the canopy. It offers coverage for half of the back of the deck so if you want to be out in the sun you can but if you want to sit out of the shade you can. All works really well- cheers.

Change of colour

Sun, 2011-12-04 22:32

I had a dark blue one with my last boat. Decided to change with this one and went with the burgundy. I kinda like it. It is quite individual and it can go with either blue or brown hull.
