Carnarvon Sunday report
Sunday,0830,changed destination plans from going north to the Beejaling Shoals just south of the Blowholes to the Mud hole about 3/4 of the way to the islands off Carnarvon.
Had a look around for fish on some marked spots untill I found one showing some promise, anchored up and dropped the lines in.Result was undersized sweetlip emperor for both of us on board, another drop, same thing so upped anchor.
Checked out another couple of marks until found one with fish showing.Anchored again and first drop produced a double header of pinkies, both just legal size, back they went.Old mate Neville came up with a double of a just undersize pinkie and a pan size snapper, back goes the pinkie and into the box goes the pan size. After 20 odd drops we had released about 15 undersized pinkies and had just 1 x just size pinkie, the pan size snapper and a trevally of 2kg.
Upped anchor and headed towards Koks Island in company with another boat who must have had the same idea. Both of us anchored on the same bit of ground about 40metres apart.First drop and I'm onto something solid, bang and its gone, inspection showed 150lb trace line frayed/bitten through a few inches below the dropper knot.Nev is on and fairly stretching his arms with a double header of pinkies in the range of 5-6kg.I lose the next one when the 10/0 suicide hook snaps off as I was lifting it in to the boatOver the next hour we get our bag limit of pinkies, four of which are of a bigger size than usually caught up here so we were not complaining especially Nev who hadn't caught one before let alone a double header of them.He has lived up here on and off for years and while having heard of the islands had never seen them so he got a trip to remember and we hope a lot more to look forward to.
Back at the ramp we were chatting to two other boats who went to the shoals for average returns of 2 pinkies and 2 average spaniards so I think we made the right choice for once.

Distance
To get to reasonable fishing ground you have to be prepared to travel a fair way
There are a few spots close like the Lady Joyce/Joyous=10nm,ballast dumping grounds8nm.6hn and the barge wreck=.5nm then you have to either go north toward the blowholes or out to the islands.
To get to the mud/muck hole is 22nm,Koks island 29nm and the gap between the islands is around 26nm.Going north Beejaling shoals is 19nm,Fitzroy reef 22nm.
Compared to Exmouth its a long way to get a decent feed.I would happily move up there except the summers are too hot where they get 40deg plus for most of it while we get 4-5 days of it.One fact to think about,Perth gets more days a year over 35 than Carnavon due to the southerly wind we cop from September through to the end of February

Good one John
Estate agent just emailed with two properties in Exmouth $550,000,00 for a 3x1 and the other was $750,000.00 (brand new) 4x2, yes Carnarvon is looking better all the time, just have to twist, twist and bloody well twist his arm to sell down here and buy in Carnarvon, he's yelling, am I twisting to hard darling ha ha, bloody well ring his neck soon, wish he'd hurry up and make his mind up.

Bloody well done John!
That's a GREAT hall mate. Hope the CT isn't causing you too much grief, my wife suffers from that (along with an overdriven aural amplifier when I'm in trouble).

Suggest you give the missus a nudge toward getting it done Col.Had the other hand done 5-6 yrs back,no problems since and no second thoughts this time. Not having to try and sleep with the arm vertical to stop the pins and needles is great.
Use ear plugs[skin coloured so she who must be obeyed doesn't know]to give yourself a bit of quiet time LOL
As said to Syntos' bit earlier, the big problem here is the distances you have to travel and for 6 months of the year we have strong southerly winds every day so if the wind drops then there's a big rush of boats out fishing.
