CATALINA 4500 vs TWINPOWER SW 8000
Hey guys,
Im in the market for a new reel, its primary uses will be a bit of sambo jigging and also casting stickbaits and poppers
Im undecided between and Catalina or Twinpower, and whether the Twinpower is worth the extra few dollars
Specs
CATALINA 4500 -- Ratio - 5.1 --Max Drag 10kg - Bearing 9+1
TWINPOWER SW 8000 --Ratio - 5.6 -- Max Drag 25kg - Bearings 10+1
The Catalina would be more suited for jigging with the lower ratio, would the Twinpower be fine for jigging especially as it has more stopping power.
The Reel will be matched with a Daiwa Saltist Demon blood 762X Pe 5-6 for casting
And then swapped to a PE4-6 jigging rod yet to be purchased
I'd assume the Shimano would come with a spare spool but i am uncertain about the catalina????
Also how does the actual size of the reels compare??
Any inputs guys and girls would be much appreciated
There are too many choices in the fishing world

Hey mate, I have a Catalina and am massive wraps for it!! Hasnt let me down at all and caught some great fish with it. I would say that both reels would do the job pretty well, so its all up to you.

i have used a 6500 catalina on saltwater charters seemed like a pretty sweet reel, and still in good condition after nearly a year of charter work , which is pretty hardy cos they get thrashed on charters
With only 10kg of drag what sizeable fish have you stopped?

I don't think the Twinpower
I don't think the Twinpower comes with a spare spool either.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I have had my catalina for a few years now, and it is very good. I love to use it when chasing coral trout off Dampier. When the sharks are around it gets an absolute thrashing- either skull dragging trout at speed to the surface, or sadly, getting smashed by bloody sharks. I usually have the drag almost locked up, and it has not ever faltered.
I had to buy a spare spool, for different line, it was a saltiga spool and quite expensive

No spare spool with the twinny. Can't comment on high speed reel for tp as I got the pg model but the reels are unreal. Tp gets my vote. I'm sure both are fine.

In that segment, stella
In that segment, stella 8k.
I really don't think the saving for the sw tp8k is worth it, and the catalina is so old now I wouldn't touch it either,
