Penn International 30vsx 2-speed
Submitted by Jimsjams44 on Fri, 2011-11-11 13:42
I'm planning on getting one of these to use with 50lb braid and mono topshot for medium game fishing and the occasional deep drop fishing, has anyone got one of these/used one? Would this be a good option for the fishing I plan to do?
Any feedback would be handy before I go ahead and commit to it.

Have the 30vsw 2 speed
Have the 30vsw 2 speed and love it . Only use it for up north trolling but it is nice to use . Only issue is you can't turn the clicker off when winding in , not sure about the vsx . Haven't used it for bottom bashing . Good line capacity and not as big as the shimmano 30 tiagra.
The VSX isn't as wide as the vsw so it would be better for bottom fishing as there would be less chance of the reel wanting to go sideways , if you know what i mean .

ive used the 30vsx that mako matt kindly lent me for deep drop have done 450mtrs deep
was still a work out but found it nice to use but would def reccomend a good harness set up its quite a heavy set up
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Have you checked out the
Have you checked out the Tiagara? I found the Taigras's to be alittle smoother and to me they felt better constructed.

tiagra
Haven't looked at the tiagras, I currently own a penn international 50vsw and I really like the way it feels.
I wanted to get the smaller 30 size so it would be lighter for deep drops but still could use 50lb braid with topshop for game fishing. I will be predominantly using it for trolling though.
I've been told the vsx are more specifically designed for running braid/topshop and have a better drag system than the vsw.
I might go in and check both out

Mate
We run Tiagras and Inters in the 50's and 80's wide 2 speeds and can honestly say that at this point in time I can't seperate the 2 brands , we were hesitant to buy a swag of 80wide 2 speed inters for chasing big Bills out of Exmouth
but at this point in time after 2 seasons the Penns are as good as the Tiagras at 2/3's of the price , and we've hooked some smokers on 80 that have put the Penns to the test and have come through with flying colours .
Just one more cast , honest !!!
