Looks as though the foam floats off once the bait is yanked/bitten off unlike ballooning where you usually get whats left of them back or with helium , to use them again. Certainly different thats for sure.
- imade something very similar back in the early 70's with a truck tube, 6" hook, trace from a wire rope pull starter off a MNM track machine and a 6" nut off an ore car. Floated it out into the De Grey about a k from the mouth baited with a full Threadfin. Tied it off to a mangrove on the edge of the bank and went to bed. Woken by a huge ruckus in the water about 2am we found nothing - including the mangrove. Some big bities in that river. Ballooons may be better than styrene as with that set up it ends up as a pollutant.
He's even gone to the trouble of super-imposing "shArk bOy" over the photos so i cant steal his invention! Damn!! shark boy - wave your arms in the air like you just dont care...
10 points for innovation! a good result too.
is that coated wire onto the hook? looks like its a good fix / knot. wonder how strong it is?
but pretty crap that a styrofoam box ends up floating around out there in the ocean for turtles and marine life to eat. can't believe that some people think that this is a good thing!
i wonder if you would get a reaction walking up to any of our local waterways and throwing in a styrofoam box and simply walking away.
if i seen someone do that they would end up being thrown in there aswell to retrieve it.
Have used a similar system down south, only difference is we have the guide string attached to the top (industrial bag string used on wheat bags comes in 500m lengths) as to be able to retrieve. (important note have to keep bit tension on string as to keep it away from your line).
well done on the step by step pics . great end result with that big shark. as mentioned about the float method, you might want to look at the retrieval of it so it does not pollute the water .it would be frowned on over here if we were to do such things

definitely a great idea, but not so great in the sense it pollutes the waters.
