Changing Braid

Not sure if this has come up before but here goes.
Does Braid deterioate with time and weather,
Reason i ask is i have a reel that the braid has been on for a few years now but never had a lot of fishing time with it. we went out fishing over the long weekend and the line broke a lot easier than i remember it doing.

Hey mate, If the reels been
Hey mate,
If the reels been washed and stored well out of the sun it should be right..
Get out in the front yard and get a good length out and test it, test a short length first to save you the trouble if it has gone to crap.

If its the good stuff it will
If its the good stuff it will last a long time. Back when it was called spun gel, the testing conditions was to lay out complete spools on a hot tin roof exposed to the elements for 2 years then tested again for strength and casting ability.

I have also had a similar experience
Faulkners, same here, but with old braid and an type I dont use anymore. Was a bream rod with 4lb braid. For 5yrs not used in Karratha.
Went down to White Hills and the Dark braid had turned a lighter shade of gray. It broke tying the knot. Just removed some from the surface and it was good as gold. Also I did then reverse the braid onto another better bream reel, so now the sun protected side is infront, the old front at the back. Should be good as gold.

I change braids quite
I change braids quite frequently - I get annoyed at braids after a short time haha. Sunline Monster Battle is one that I have used for about 6 months now and I cannot fault it. Will continue to use it for a long time. But hey, you would expect that from a $170 spool of braid ;)

thanks for the input. line is about 7years old. i might have a look at reversing or just pinch newer line off of a decomissioned reel thats only a couple of years old. winding it straight off so its reversed

Good plan there
Why waste the line just sitting there. As for Leemo, Shiite thats pricey, and I thought I dont skimp on anything fishing wise. I am a rough fisho, with blood and guts everywhere. Never thought I would treat top ender gear well, but the Stella's and Samurai rods are my babies now, and even they arent spooled with $$$$ braid, only $$$.

spot on with the $$$$ on braid, i dont realy like spending half that on the stuff.
no mortgage and maybe no girl to spend the money on so may as well blow it on fishing stuff
