Chivers Sportfisherman for Sale***SOLD***

With my interest in a new boat rapidly increasing, the time has come to move my Sportfisherman on to a new home. This boat is of the old school, layers upon layers of glass, strong stern drive Mercruiser and the ability to get through the sea without displacing any vertebrae. I have gone Hillarys to Rotto return in around 45L so you don't need a bulging wallet to get into boating.

I have listed it online, so feel free to have a look at the ad http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/trailer-boats.php?de=56756

I am asking $17990, but will negotiate on price and what electronics stay in the boat. I do want this gone though, so give me a call or PM. You never know what might happen.

Nice Boat

Cammos, Hi there.

Nice boat, I have the Chivers Bahama, which you may probably never have heard of, but I'm doing mine up. How did you find the rough water handling, say returning from Rotto late afternoon with the SWerly?

What sort of boat are you looking at upgrading too?

To be honest, if I have the kids out with me I am on the way home at the first sign of a blow. I have only really been caught twice on my own when it blew up while I was underwater. It handles it easily, but as with all boats you need have open eyes and ears, and drive the sea, not your GPS. The temptation when it gets a bit willing is to rush in, whereas if you drive according to the ocean I find it a lot safer.

Technically speaking, it doesn't try to turn around in a following sea, but there are moments when full roar is achieved to keep a wave out of the boat. Chivers are built for our conditions so they can handle it.

Chivers

I had a centre console 17 ft many years ago and it handled some of those conditions really well , but very wet boat. Still we used it mainly for diving. Coming back from Rotto once it was fairly large.... anyway driving around the wave and picking my way home to Freo bilge pump on quite a few times with some of the waves. When we finally got back to the heads I looked around to see the Marine and Harbours vessel about a 45 to 60 foot boat from memory just pounding into these huge seas. It was then I realised just how big it really was for us. They pulled us up in the heads for a gear check and said, " bit big for you guys out there was'nt it?..." And they were right.. This boats a heck of a lot bigger and heavier than that one so I'll see how she handles it one day I'm sure. decided to keep mine and repower.

Something up around 22 - 24

Sun, 2009-08-23 11:46

Something up around 22 - 24 ft. Still glass though. Somthing like a Leeder 710 would be as big as I would go, but again that would most likely be stern drive.

My wish list is space for 4 divers, cabin for 3 primary age kids to sleep in, toilet, deck space to sleep 2 adults, capable of 30 knots loaded, able to travel 60nm without refuel, can be towed with TD Pajero/Prado type 4WD at 110km/h.

Have looked at Commodores, Haines, Baron, Northshore, Cruisecraft. Would prefer an outboard to maximise deck space. $50k budget.

Any ideas are appreciated. There hasn't been too much action on the Chivers so far so I will need to be patient.

Hrm, not really up on the towing regs because my tinny is so light and not sure if this is up to date, or accurate either.

http://www.carscene.com.au/tipstricks/towregs.htm

That is suggesting you could be done for towing over 90kmh when your load is over 750kg?

Carribean Reef Runner?

Sun, 2009-08-23 21:58

Have you had a look at the Reef Runner, They seem to be a nice boat don't know if they would fit the bill but nice looking boats.
I'm using a portable chemical toilet with mine but may change to a have a toilet with macerator added next yr.
The other one is the Northshore Very nice boats? Chivers Safari with a rebuild?
The Northshore have lots of accolades and boat of the year I think.
Another would be the ?Commodore Marine "Abrohlos", If the outboards were on a pod maybe; but strength and torque of the inboards wins me over.

Sadly I did the head gasket a couple weeks ago. Dropped the price a bit and off she goes. A real bargain for the buyer once the engine is back up to scratch.

Now the fun begins. How long until the Mandurah Boat Show?
