Cliff gaffs

Just curious as I'm thinking about changing from low stretch mono to braided line, how do cliff gaffs go with the braid? As braid will snap if touched ? Any info will be appreciated

I fish with braid from the cliffs but I also use about 30m of mono leader to clear reef and cliffs and for protection from the gaff.

How does that limit your casting mate?

Yes, it does limit casting
Yes, it does limit casting distance a little but I figure there's no point winning the fight with a good fish only to part company because of braid on rocks or gaff! If conditions are right a decent rod and reel will still belt out lures into the zone.

I run a much shorter leader,
I run a much shorter leader, around 2 rod lengths. Try to use an extended pole gaff as much as possible, but if it has to be a flying gaff, i've never had a problem.

I spin the cliffs every year
I spin the cliffs every year using braid and have no problem.
just make sure to hold the rod as far past the cliff edge as possible when gaffing.

Fair call guys, just thought
Fair call guys, just thought the sliding of a metal hoop or such on the tensioned braid could be bit dodgy, hey leemo how do go about carrying an extended gaff? I imagine could be quite cumbersome bit of gear to carry over cliffs ?

as Jayden said, you get them
as Jayden said, you get them 3 and 4 peice sections and it makes it so much easier. Usually use 3 peice 2m sections when fishing quobba and i've never really had a problem even on low water level.
