I have never worried too much about tides/moon etc when squiding. I do find that when storms stir the water up and it becomes murky its harder to find the squid. Look for weed with sand patches scattered through it. Popular spots are off Woodmans Point and out towards the north end of garden island. They tend to hunt in small schools so if you get one drift over the same spot!

I went for a squid in the sound last weekend. Pretty slow going really and we only managed 12 or so between 2 of us for about 4 hrs worth of squidding.

I dont think  the cranking north easterly wind was any help though

I have found they are more hard work when conditions glass off, better with a bit of a ripple on the surface. If wind or drift is bad, u may not be getting down into the zone and require heavier deep jigs like the yamashita spider (30grams +). Don't forget to keep changing your colours and sizes until u start finding out what they like on that day in the given conditions.

Its a waste of time if the waters all murky, never done any good until it clears up a bit.
