Containers??

Very hard day out wide today. Nice conditions but fish not interested.
We ended up coming back in and stumbled on this basically straight out from Hillaries in 115m.....fish everywhere, all 3 of us dropped jigs, all 3 got hit instantly on big sambos, all 3 got sharked quickly.....
We moved on straight away but came on another similar show 100m away......are these the fabled containers?
Anyhoo, total waste of time ever going back, sharks are everywhere, disappointing.

Thought the Containers were a about 2km SE of the Club Marine Fad? Close to other various wreaks in that area.

Why not go back and get a
Why not go back and get a good feed of shark?
If more of us did it there would not be so many sharks around at the moment. You can take 3 a day each, there is no closed season and are great to give to the freeloaders, relatives, neighbours and friends... It is good eating when it is looked after and sure beats giving away your quality fillets. Win - win all round for everyone.
And before you say mercury... it is only really an issue if you are pregnant and or breastfeeding, and if you are you should be worried about plenty of other popular fin fish as well.

At a guess, he is probably referring to being sharked by ~3m whalers out there. I'm sure you can figure out the rest as to why bringing back 3 a day in his boat isn't a good idea.

Haha, you might be onto something there! Talk about back pain from 100m though!
Edit: Has anyone dropped a go-pro down around the 'Containers' to actually see all these sharks? Maybe light would be an issue though I guess...

No risk no reward! I'd do it
No risk no reward! I'd do it with my version 1 go-pro, set up a housing so that it looks down vertically. We're up to version 5 now aren't we? It's probably only worth $20 now!

Not the point... How do you
Not the point... How do you know they are 3 metres until you measure them (700mm interdorsal length). Does not matter how big they are, use rope if you have to... Until you put them on the measure you will never know that they are over the legal size... Obviously once you measure them and find that it is actually oversize you have to release it.
If the government is not going to knock back local shark numbers and pro's cannot catch them there is only one solution to the shark problem, which is not going to go away by itself. We as rec fishers need to eat more. Or at least catch and measure more.

I didn't realize there was a
I didn't realize there was a local shark "problem". I've only encountered them at the wrecks. It's not really comparable to up north where you can't escape them.
If you want to use a rope to bring one up, then deal with measuring it boatside when, by most accounts they are well in excess of the legal limit out there - go for it.

These were friggen big
These were friggen big sharks, and there must have been heaps of them, as we all dropped down together, first jig got hit after 2 cranks by what felt like a solid sambo, and within 5 seconds it was bitten off, the next after a few more cranks and it lasted no more than 5 seconds before it was bitten off...then there was me who had just reached the bottom with a quality jig on, trying to work out how to get it past a heap of sambos without getting hit and without getting bitten off..........fast, slow......it was like pissing into a stiff breeze, it was always gonna end badly.
We attempted to land one of these beasts at the barges a few years ago on PE6 and Stella 20,000.......waste of time. We fought it for over an hour and got it to the surface only for it peel off 50 m easily when it saw my ugly mug. Out with the scissors!

Just to clarify, these are
Just to clarify, these are NOT the "wrecks", the "graveyard" or the "barges" at the back of Rotto. I have sounded and found about 14 wrecks out that way, 3 years ago there was only the odd shark on the main 3 wrecks (generally known as north, outer and south barges). Last year almost all had sharks and I have not bothered going back this year. This is 20 km north of that area.....friggen sharks can swim I guess......

Even getting the bastards on
Even getting the bastards on the shallower 40m lumps now. According to the pro cray blokes these big whalers follow the boats taking scraps and old bait, so when they drop pots on your sambo lump the sharks realise theres an abundance of food(sambos) in that area and the pricks are reluctant to leave. We had a bad run a few months ago when our lump was littered with pots and the sharks were there. Had it good for the last month or so until last weekend the sharks were back

yep
Yeh they're the containers, there's north and south (barges). Been sharky since about 2008 from memory. It used to be good for mullas and pinks as well, not anymore. :(

Hillarys
John if that is about 5NM north from Hillarys FAD that is a lump and gets great aggregations of Sambos. Always been a problem there for sharks. I remember 1 year seeing a bunch of guys on a boat and one of their hats blew off. He was reaching over the gunwhale to grab it and this big arse tiger hit the side of the boat to chomp his hat. All of them on board jumped back in sheer shock.
from memory though I think that was in about 125m though.
Cheers

Fished the wrecks and
Fished the wrecks and containers last weekend, was no sharks and little life on them, just landed soppy malloway, snapper and small sambos, we did get blown away on a larger sambo on pe2 and another one hooks pulled, iam sure the sharks will move in once the Aggregate arrives
