Unlike normal hinges this is a strong plastic material with two thick strips (that you fix to what you want to hinge) and a thin but strong strip of flexible material between ..................so unlike normal hinges which in sea environments can get clogged and hard to move as a result of salt encrustation this material is totally immune to such issues.
Both the rear door to the dive platform and the door into the cabin on my boat are hinged with the stuff however the cabin door hinge has finally given up the ghost as the flexible joint element has failed so I just want to source the same stuff to replace it with
It lasts a good 10/15 years despite our high wear location (as far as uv effects on plastic) is concerned and is completely maintenance free and very low profile - because it has no holes / gaps like a conventional hinge it also stops water getting through
Perfect match, dont know why it isn't extensively used in boating applications as totally unaffected by salt water unlike any metal hinge including stainless
