Converting Garmin waypoints to Lowrance?
Submitted by abrohlosorbust on Sun, 2019-12-22 11:22
Ive had a seach and struggled to find anything definitive.
Has anybody got a tried and proven way of downloading exchanging Garmin waypoints to a Lowrance HDS Chart plotter. Ideally would like to be able to drag/ save them en masse and not have to enter manually. The Garmin is the old GPSmap76sx and the Lowrance is HDS 8 Gen 2.
More than happy to recieve a private message if preffered. I know it must have been done previously i cant find anything online though.

Gps babel
Download gps babel. It is free.enter all your existing ones as a single file and then convert them to usr or gpx.

GPS Babel
Crano have this already but cant make head or tail of it. Was hoping someone a little more IT savvy could point me in the right direction or better still a step by step to make it work. formats files etc. are just causing a cluster.
Cheers for your reply.

Lowrance uses
Lowrance will read .usr and .gpx when importing files.
If you still have your Garmin best is to export/save as .gpx file (pretty sure they do) to microSD and then import to the Lowrance directly.
If the Garmin is not working you can use GPSbabel but i find i always have little issues when converting.
Hopefully the save as .gpx method is do-able.

or use OziExplorer
OziEx will save wp directly from a garmin and show them on a chart/map (you have to provide the map/chart but... "they are available if you ask nicely'... but I dont have any WA ones.
Regardless, it will save them...
It will then save them in a whole range of formats, including Lowrance .usr and GPX
You may have to buy the full version... but it is well worth it. I have used mine for 20 years.

Sort of sorted.
Hey guys many thanks for the suggestions. Appears to have worked for the majotiy but a couple of oddball results means i now just need to manually check and edit if required. Best guess just shy of 500 uploaded and about 40 odd with whacko lat and/or long?
Sure beats manually entering the lot....
Cheers!
