Copying my movies to and watching them from a hard drive
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Wed, 2009-09-23 18:19
Here's one for the computer "nerds". I'm a bit sick of carting my DVD folder to and from work and was thinking of getting a portable USB hard drive to save a heap of my movies to.
Is anyone on here doing something similar? My questions are:
-what program are you using to copy your DVDs to hard drive?
-what program do you use to watch them on your computer?
-Roughly how many gig does one movie take up (so I can buy an appropriate sized drive)?
I've done the usual Google search and found a heap of potential sites but I'm keen on hearing from some users first.
Thanks
Tim

G'day Tim, ive got a 1tb
G'day Tim, ive got a 1tb Buffalo ext hard drive, i would suggest 1 of these, ive got all my movies, tv shows, music, photos, programs on there, just frees up all the space on the computer.
DVD Shrink is a good program to use to copy your dvd's to avi (divx) files, which shrinks them to about 700mb.
alot of the new dvd players/recorders play the avi/divx files, so what you can do is burn about 5 movies onto a blank dvd as a data disk and watch them on the tv
send me a pm if ya need any more info mate

Hi Tim, see below - what
Hi Tim, see below
- what program are you using to copy your DVDs to hard drive? I use to use DVD Shrink but find DVD Fab 6 much better.
-what program do you use to watch them on your computer? There are plenty, most com free with your DVD Drive. PowerDVD & InterVideo are common ones.
-Roughly how many gig does one movie take up (so I can buy an appropriate sized drive)? for the price, just grab a 1TB. will take you a while to fill that. The size of the movie will depend on the format etc. DVD Shrink usually gets them below 4GB so thay fit back on a single layer DVD.
