Counting down to exxy
Hi all just gettin the tub ready for the big trip to exxy.Just thought i would share some pics of her in all her glory as I have just completed a major re furb.Just a quick rundown on what I have done, the most obvious is that I took the 351 winsor inboard out and had the hull extended for a new honda 225 outboard. To compensate for the weight distrubution and bouancy differance I took the original 150l fuel tank out which ran down the middle of the boat and got a 205L tank built that now sits across the transom, which I have mounted my fold down rear seat to.I also had 2 90l fresh water tanks built into the extention that i have hooked up to a deck wash. The differance this has made to the ride and handling is awsome. The top speed is now 45kn up from 36kn and fuel consumption has improved by 60L on a average 70nm fishing trip.My fuel consumption is 1L/1nm.She cruises most compfy at 28kn.I have also re-done the interior inc fitting a couple of dvd screens for the squids for when they get a bit bored trolling.Ha ha.I must say it was a big gamble doing this sort of modification to a boat that is 32 years old(1979) and spending this much doe on it but now it is all done i dont regret it one bit.I would put her up against any new boat of the same size anyday Instrument wise im running a furuno 582L 600w sounder and a lawrance hds7 plotter with the platinum card.If any fellow fishwrecked members see us up in exxy around gamex time give us a shout.Always keen to meet like-minded fishos.

Classic Meersy!
Hey mate thats an awesome effort with the refurb - The pod looks really good - and its tough to get a quality finish that ties in well to the orginal boat and I reckon you'd have to be happy. Mate with all the talk of pelagics around town I don't know that I'd be waiting for Exmouth - you could well and truly christen the beast before you head north. BTW what/who is the hull / manufacturer of your craft. Can I make one suggestion being a Honda owner myself - treat yourself to an OCA splash cover - it'll really show the nice lines of the 225 off beautifully! Yeah love the name too - great sense of Aussie humour there- well done!
Cheers

Yeh thanks for the compliments perry, the hull is a swiftcraft sportsman 22ft.(now 24ft). I have had her out to the trench 2 weekend ago and landed a 9kg dolly and my best mate dirt had a marlin smash one of his skirts but failed to stay connected.(SPEWIN)

Hang tough Mate - Mix your spread - or vary the lure type
I no expert but given the amount of pelagic action ( even land based) this year you'd have to think the more often you get out the greater the chance of a once in a lifetime capture- I would n't event discount trolling in close on the way to the trench - there's been two Marlin taken in a matter of weeks in 15 meters or less - holy crap you could actually see them swim past in that kinda depth! Stick with it - I'm out tomorrow and have the home made teasers of each corner of the stern. A Pusher out the back, minnows on both corners and a fresh gardie on the heavy duty spin stick ready in case we raise something thats not exciable on lure - learnt that from a trip to the Rowley Shoals 10 years ago - what a blast that was!
Cheers

Looking good. 9kn top speed
Looking good. 9kn top speed and 60l per trip are great improvements. Will hopefully land some more great fish soon. Any reason going for the 582 instead of the 585?
Btw, you spelt one fishwrecked wrong. Its spelt 'wrecked' not 'ingwa' haha. At least theres a nice shiny sticker on the transom.

looking the goods
The old girl is definately looking the goods these days and is set up for all styles of fishing including our favourite TROLLING.Cant believe in 11 days we will be up in exxy
Hopefully all 4 of us will boat our first marlin during the 2 weeks we are there, looking forward to fine tuning our skills somewat so when we return to perth we have half a chance if we get to tangle with one of the big
boys that are visiting our waters. We have been planning this trip for nearly six months and we are ready to get amounst it.Meersy has also been experimenting with a dash mounted video camera that seems to work a treat, when we went out to the trench a couple of weeks ago we seen the dolly smash the skirt then cart wheel out of the water plus it captured all the mayhem on deck as we scrambed to clear the other 3 rods ,the teaser and the witch doctor,it was quite humerous sitting down watchin it when we got home havin a few coldies.Hopefully we will have some awsum footage to share when we return cant wait
Praying everyday that the weather and water conditions continue to improve over the next couple of weeks

Hi mulie the bimni was done
Hi mulie the bimni was done by a mob called mandurah canvas, its due to be replaced soon and im looking at a hard top sop that will be interesting. To uncles comment about catching the same fish here as exxy, it will take more than the odd marlin and mackie caught in perth to warrent not goin north for a fishin trip.Sounds like somethin my missus would say.LOL.When you can catch GT's, coral trout, rankin's, sailys and marlin at will then i might not need to head north for a fishin trip.(WHO AM I KIDDIN?)Its always good to get away with the boys!
