A Couple Nice Cobbler
Submitted by BunburyYakfisha on Fri, 2012-06-15 18:59
Hi all
Caught these cobbler last nite, they must have been hungry after the storm. The biggest cobbler there is 83cm..Some people say there a pain to clean but i find it very easy
just fillet and skin them... And they are very tastey too.....
Anyway heres a pic.

A nice catch
You have got a good taste catch there, I can't help but notice how to me they appear to be a bit on the thin side for such large fish, I think your comment about them being hungry might be on the money

Hey Jesse,Might want to
Hey Jesse,
Might want to remeasure your cobbler, from the photo's you would be struggling to achieve 43cm as the width of the newspaper is 43cm.
And if the biggest was in fact 43cm (from your photo and what you have admitted to, then the others are all in breach of the rules as they are all undersised except one.
That being said, the minimum length you are allowed to catch is 43cm (glad to be corrected) (rules 2009). Oh and the bag limit is 4.

All these cobbler where well oversize, and yes there was two peices of newpaper on the floor, Nad had a bit of a typo the biggest was 73cm.
And i allways stick to the bag limit as i was fishing with my brother and my cousin.. Sorry about any confusion.

You have got to be phuckin' kidding me! Seriously, there is some absolute bullshit from of late. Have a query then why don't you PM the guy or whatever.
Yakfisha - nice cobbler mate keep posting & ignore the cock knockers.
Yoni - post some pics of fish, wait maybe just one pic & less negative knocking dribble ps. PM coming your way not appropriate to post on here (something to keep in mind)

agreed lamby.
i have also noticed this yoni fool dribbling sh*t a lot, and knocks everyone and contributes f-all to this site in regards to photos of fish/reports etc.
me thinks he has a little brain, as it is clear that there are multiple sheets of news paper, and his mind was too small to think that perhaps there were more than one fisherman.
yakfisha- nice fish, good feed, keep doin what ur doin!
not all asians keep undersize fish.

Chill a little Lamby
Mate we have all been guilty off firing the GUN. But I havent seen to much malice in this one. Just pointing a few issues out. It is clear to see that there is more than one piece of paper (bad miss Joni- look a little IQ deprived for not seeing that) and we never know unless stated how many fishers there are.
I agree a clarification email is the answer, but then you could have done the same, and I could have on some post for sure
Not trying to be nasty here, but it does sound like you are the agro one, not Yoni.
This is a great site, we all help, and every now and then someone does need to be put in their place. This is mostly to point out the we arent irresponsible people as Fishos, dont all belong to the subspecies bogan, wear flannel shirts and as the greenies would like it blatantly destroy mother nature with fish kills.
As Adam said, it is a Trophy Post that is way better than a fish kill.
Do I have a problem with this post, Nah.
Could some, Yeh.

Top Feed
Top feed jesse, well done.
Guys i dont know yoni or his history on the site , but he has only asked the question!! which shows concern for our fishery, this has been done before to find the angler had in fact no idea of the new limits.
In this case he was wrong! Jesse took no affence to this!.
There's no need to jump on him with rude comments, thats contributing to the bullshit form of late!

I disagree Brock there are a
I disagree Brock there are a core few posters on this forum that target individuals with these bullshit posts, be it bag limits, size or why they have chosen to keep particular fish despite being inside bag limits etc. It's very negative, attacking & passive aggressive style which actually prompts angler's whom post regurlarly to stop on this site & / or move elsewhere.
These posters never seem to post any fish / reports themselves either which leads me to believe it's a case of the green eyed monster coming out whilst hiding anonymously behind the computer screen. Here we have a young angler getting stuck into some good fish of late & posting regularly, he should be encouraged & praised for his efforts because that's what we come here to see... fish.
There is no jumping of rude comments, he has just been called out after continued bullshit. Post pics / reports & keep the site flowing, have an issue with something drop the guy a PM.

All Good
Lamby, I see your point, but its just the way we comment in return that to me is a little strong.
But in saying that i dont see some of the posts / comments as a lot of regulars do.

Cobbler
Somehow they appear rare ATM. But It has to be the best feed off anything. Well done, and I would keep that spot close to my heart.
Hint: if you have ever been stung, and I have once and once only, avoid it like the plague. Use a pliers to cut the spines, 1 on the back (dorsal fin) and 2 on the sides, the pectoral fins to avoid the nasty. The poison is still there but if it cant prick you, it is no worries.
Then like you I agree it is not overly hard to fillet.
My cobbler X spot in Mandurah dried up, and the only way I have caught some beauties has been with snorkling and a giddgy, but yrs ago. Havent caught a decent one for ages on line. But then 5yrs have been in the Pilbara.

Choice feed!
Big fan of ocean cobbler, and looks like you have a great feed there. I'm getting hungry just looking at 'em!
Care to share bait and rig?
As to cobbler rarity, I was snorkelling down at Point Peron towards the end of summer and came across a big ball of baby cobbler, each one around 5cm long. Must have been a thousand or so there. I took it as a good sign, hope to bump into them again next year!

Thanks guys
I seem to find catching cobbler a breeze, the key is to be patient, and use river or coral prawns
on a weightless rigg or a little ball in stronger currents. If any of u guy wanna get a feed of cobbler im willing to
show a few spots.

Unreal!
Good catch there mate, great to see a few cobbler still getting around! The last good run I had of cobbler was on the concrete jetty up at lano during winter (after a storm- might be something in that!) We must've caught a couple of dozen over 3 nights. Your fish look really dark compared to most ocean ones?
