Crabbing In May - is it worth it?

Looking at heading into the Cockburn sound for some squid over the week but never been crabbing this time of year. Is it worth it? I assume they would be in deeper water if they are there? Any particualr time seeing it's cooler. Do you come out during the day rather than dusk for food?

Any info would be appreciated

Cheers

i would stick with squidding, but i see no harm in throwing in some pots in the deeper water,  just watch for the blowies if your using the clips for your bait etc

But in Mandurah went Mid April and got the boat limit and had a great feed or 2. Tried a few recipes like crab linguini and Crab and Corn Soup. Decided last saturday to try again. 2 Crabs in 40 pots pulled, and a shit load of blowies.

So I would say drop the pots but dont expect much.

I see 'em each morning

I see 'em each morning heading down the South end at the moment - but it's always pretty easy to find where they go - Warnbro Sound is much smaller than Cockburn. Just look for a whole heap of floats.

They are often in the deep water so sometimes you need to allow for 20-22m.

And likewise the Pros are

And likewise the Pros are still going out in mandurah. Mostly in the Parkridge and Heron area. We see them every morning sitting on the balcony with a coffee (when Im not FIFO in Karratha). They were shallow for a few weeks but it looks like the Pros are in deeper water there to, albeit only 2.5-3m Max.

Our effort have to admit was on a trusted shallow spot.
