Dunsborough - Late May

Hey guys,

I'm heading down to Dunsborough for this weekend coming and so far the weather forecasts (wind and sun) are looking pretty good so I'm planning on taking my dinghy down with me. Wont have heaps of time to go fishing, probably only a couple of two/three hour sessions. Was mainly going to target squid and whiting. I know the whiting are always there and I've got thousands in the bay down there before, but have never really targeted squid in Duns before. I am planning on having a few different squid jigs on board and drifting them through the moorings near the Quindalup finger jetty and hopefully getting a few for a feed. Any info on whether they are in numbers down there at the moment would be much appreciated, cheers!!

Squid

Hey Elliot , Yep the Squid have been fairly consistant of late but size has been mixed with a few smallish hoods around , A good area is also straight out from Dunn Bay rd , anything from 800m to 1.5km is generally a winner , a two hour session will generally give you a good feed . Another good area is where Tobys inlet runs into the sea.

Jig Colour is more varied with the "Hot" colour changing all the time , if overcast make sure you have a Purple in your selection.

The KG's have been more consistant up towards Siesta Park or Abbey.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Habanero, I'll drop into Outdoor Sportz when I get down and grab a few things from you guys and have a quick chat. Good to hear that they have been fairly consistent, i'll come armed with a range of squid jigs to throw at them. Yeah I've noticed that in the Busselton direction the KG's seem to be a little thicker when I was there three weeks ago. Thanks again!

been away for 6 months but it doesn't change that much. just stick some quality jigs in as you drift for whiting and you'll grab a few. if you really want squids for a feed go deeper and drift 'em close to the weed and you will grab a great feed. sustainable fissheries are awesome as long as we keep them that way. p.s- damo has every colour

 Went out on Saturday off

Went out on Saturday off Quindalup. Looked for clearer water @ 3 - 5m and got a feed of squid (10) in no time. Not bad size too. Overcast day so I stuck with the more "natural" colours. Purple, green and brown worked best. Purchased a Yamashita jig in the live brown colour that morning from Damo and it worked particularly well. Dunsborough outdoor sports has all the colours mate, go check em out. Some great advice to be had there too!

Cheers for all reply's guys, much appreciated! I wish I could take our bigger boat down but only can take the dinghy which has extremely low sides so will have to stick really close to shore unless its a glass off!
