on behalf of my son in law.....well he will be in a couple of weeks, he just got
back from a day out with bluejuice, his reaction when i asked how he went was "absolute shithouse" now I know fish are where you find them but with
18 people on board there was ONE count em ONE fish caught for the whole day! well apart from a couple of undersize unknowns he never even lost his bait all day, there was a lot of unhappy customers. @$210 per person thats $3780 not sure how much fuel they would use but thats thats taking the piss! even the deckie didnt have to do anything

Tell him to get up to Jurien
Tell him to get up to Jurien and fish with Whitey on Seasport charters, just finished filleting our bag limit then plus a few good Macks! Doing it all again tomorrow. Would never fish a Perth charter for demersals.

That's fishing for you. You
That's fishing for you. You can't expect to bag out every time, even on a charter. I went out yesterday with my uncle on his boat and we were 45km's out. A very sad start to the day but once the wind and tide changed, the fish came on the bite. Problem was, it was 13:00 when the fish started to bite. We left Dawsville boat ramp about 8am and didn't get home till 17:00. 2 Dhuies, 1 King George, 1 Queen Snapper. Long day on the water and pretty demoralising when you catch all your fish in an hour but you've had to spend several waiting.

C'mon boys!
You're dealing with mother nature here guys. You're not rocking up to a brothel with $200 in your hand, guaranteed to catch. How many times have you gone to your regular spot with burley, mulies, prawns, occy, soft plastics, hard bodies and beer on a perfect tidal situation and caught nothing but a hangover? Sometimes shit doesn't happen.

yeah your right there
yeah your right there bigdunc but unfortunatly bluejuice have got a reputation for poor catches. sure there are the days that go well but are well and truly outnumbered from what i have heard over the time on here and in other places.

Been out a fair few times on
Been out a fair few times on charters in the metro area, and even with good skippers have come back empty handed plenty of times. I don't think it's a reflection of the effort the skipper puts in, but rather that there are alot fewer fish in the metro area.

empty handed
Couple of years ago we did over 20 NM per day (in our own boat) for two weeks in Kalbarri for less than a handful of fish from memory about (3) .
Had water temps, bait balls, etc .....still no fish.
Wouldn't go to hard on the Charter Company, your choice is to try some different options or buy a boat and then there is still no guarantee.
We went the option of our own boat for the freedom and because when the kids were small the last thing we wanted was to be stuck on a boat again with a bunch of drunks 20 miles off the coast.... naaa mate no thanks...

he wouldnt have gone
but his boss invited him...thats fishing these days I understand that and I've been on a lot of charters over the years but I think it's typical unfortunatley of metro charters these days thats why I wouldnt go on a charter again in the metro area including mandurah, I went with port bouvard charters about 3 or 4 years ago and we ended up fishing of bunbury FFS! and still caught very little
It just go's against the grain when you have to hand over $210 to a skipper for fuck all but if i put $200 of fuel in my boat for fuck all
it wouldnt seem as bad!

I wouldnt go to hard on them,
I wouldnt go to hard on them, they cant make the fish bite. They dont know if its gonna go off or if its gonna be dead. But with charters i think if you dont catch anything they should do something like half your money back. Ripping $200 to go for a boat ride and smell fishy aint a good look. And those customers aint coming back!
I went with Mills in probably 06 07.....I got a JUST size pinky and a small black arse......sucked....
I love fishing. It`s escaping reality for a few hours for me!

bit harsh joe
Mixed feelings on this one, No charter skipps cant make fish bite , and even on our boats
sometimes its bloody hard work for a fish.
Also though the charter boats over the years havent all excactly been profressional in there approach.
Years back , I had the " pleasure" of going on a charter boat from Mindarie, We left late ,headed out
to direction area .Turns out the guy driving wasnt the skip , he was down below with a hangover,
Upon asking the temp skip if where we was stopping and driftn was a good spot, I was told
" mate ,every spot out heres good" We then drifted lots of times for prob 3kms for sweet fa
Back in mid afternoon , couple of blackarse between 15 people, so no not that impressed.

Regardless Joe
They are not providing the service they are charging for ...wouldn't be many business's if any, that can get away with shrugging the shoulders and saying " oh well bad luck " give me your money anyway...IMO it would be important for operators to do the righty on these off days to at least discount costs and just cover their overheads...both parties take a hit and goodwill is retained...nothing worse than a bad rep for the longevity of any business

true!
All good joe, but have had a couple of good experiences too , that maybe the local charter
boys could take on board, therefor making it a more plesent day for all and the old repeat businness
win/win then.
Out from the mid east coast of tassie , called a shark cat charter bloke, when on hols and
he said normally go out from 6-12 or 1pm, but cause of boat repairs we could go from 10-1
for 1/2 price!, we went with a couple of real characters, ex ab divers , hence the 23 foot cat ( towed by a nissan urvan!) with
twin tall mercs, that flew .All we got were some flathead, but a good feed of them, and left with a fish
in our bag, filletted, and a smile on our faces, from the company.
Second one was a cray sail (evening sailboat ride and a half cray and salad with wine) at straune
also in tassie. Cause it was a quiet week, a reduced price and we stayed out longer, very nice.

Went out with mills charters
Went out with mills charters a couple of weeks ago myself and thet first 6hrs of the day weren't producing much aswell, like some people said earlier in the thread its a bit demoralising when you hand all that money over and catch nothing... This was my 1st charter in nearly 10 years because the two before it I only caught 2 fish grand total which threw me off charter fishing. In saying all that one of the last few drops of the day the skipper put us on some good ground and they came on the bite, I only got two black ass, 2 sargeant bakers & a scorpion cod....the guy next to me pulled up a 12kg dhui...lucky ba#$ard, all in all I think we got around 35 keepers in total with a huge variety, still a good day I reckon?

I'm with Joe on this one. You
I'm with Joe on this one. You cant make the fish bite.
Would skippers here give a decky half their money back if they didnt catch a fish or feel they got there $$ worth?

i gave my decky my flathead last time i went out
last time i wet out a few weeks ago, perfect conditions, fish on the sounder, but no decent bites, but managed a flathead, which i gave to my deckie, aswel as the time before i caught 1 dhuie and a good blackass,i gave the blackass to my deckie that time aswell,to me its just the adventure of the fishing trip,if i catch fish or not,but if i have goodluck i will share or viceversa, thats what the rules are on my boat

While i find it more convenient to do charters
Handing over 220$ a round is preety rough. While you can't make the fish bite yes but the least you can do is make it a good day. I've done all the metro charters while now i do have my preffered charter. What i don't like is standing next to 24 clueless fishos/tourists hauling up my bait aswell as 4 others with alveys. The grumpy crews is a downer. I even showed upto one charter and they had to cancel (when i rocked up) because the skipper was hung over/blowing numbers). I find small companies are way better (saltwater, whitey) because it's there lively hood.if they don't put a good charter on they won't get the word of mouth buisness. Gots me beat how mills/bluejuice stay in buisness

its a tough one
I did fishing (and other) charters for a few years. Pre internet so locally it was not good if you had a quiet day but thats how it was.
If I was still doing it these days I reckon Id say to punters who are after a guarantee, double or nothing.
Assume some of mother natures risk or I can for something extra.
Of course there are some good and some bad skippers. But it is a TOUGH game (now more than ever with instant worldwide messaging from anyone with an axe to grind) whether charter or commercial fishing. Most people who live on a salary would not be able to cope with it, let alone carrying a million dollar business plus family.
So I say give the guy a break, tell your friends for sure but dont destroy his livelyhood by singing it to the world.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.

How's this then
Obrien charters exmouth every1 caught 1 just sized spangled emperor.we were out there 3 hours and he starts the boat up and heads back.We were like wtf!then on the way back we got 3 tuna by trolling so i was like "sweet" at least we got a few fish. Then the skipper sez"nah mate were taking them home to have a bbq with"again WTF! he took our fish!.$250 for a small emperor and some shitty fish wingS for lunch.GYPED.Went out on port bouvard charters or should i say "the sour face crew"looked like they were half way between crying and being angry.but we got some good fish queen snapper and pinkies. PS. on the exmouth charter we caught a massive emperor'the skipper said"nah mate they taste like shit"but then he kept it in the ice box....shady as...

Just got back from Kalbarri
Just got back from Kalbarri and went out on a charter up there on Friday. There were 12 of us on board and I reckon only 12 fish landed (of which I got one sized Pinkie) that were keepers, it just wasn't happening. It wasn't through the crew's lack of trying either we moved plenty of times and the frustrating thing was the fish were there on the sounder plenty of them too but just weren't on the chew. So really as we all know s**t happens thats fishing.
The best fish too was the one that didn't get landed the deckie's young son hooked in to a good fish on a handline on the bottom most called it for a shark as it screamed off a few time times then to everyones surprise up popped a Longtail Tuna and it would have gone over a metre easily to the boys dissapointment it got caught up in 4 other lines and got off.
