Crayfish help

Hello im a big noob when it comes to crayfish fishing. Im interested in catching them via hand or pole. I cant dive so anything deeper than 4m is a no go.

When i go snorkelling at mettams pool and i go to the outer reef i think i can hear them, is that common? Is it legal to catch them there?

So pretty much any tips are much appreciated and general direction(not asking for spots). Cheers

Currently the season is closed, plus you do need a license to catch them.

Couple of interesting links if you are looking to go after Crayfish next year.

In regards to catching them by hand, snare or crook is ok. Any method where you don't puncture the carapace (shell) is fine.

Yes when diving or snorkelling its not uncommon to hear them especially if they are in large numbers.

and they are quick buggers!

caught a few by hand and also smashed my hand a fair few times when they have moved too quick!

Lately (in season) I have used the loop to block there escape back in the the hole then grabbed them by hand.

Only works in certain types of ledges
