 Does Hillarys Sqwid Gang

Wed, 2021-12-22 20:12

Does Hillarys Sqwid Gang have a southern chapter in Rocko? My son caught a cuttlefish there and wasn't allowed off the jetty untill he handed over 3x Yamashita 3.5s. Maybe Bryan connected so watch your step brother.

Good Luck ElGuapo

Fri, 2021-12-24 18:58

Good luck with your date mate. If you're hands still have that fiddle shark stench try a parmesan based exfoliant - it's the lesser of two evils. Or just blame it on her but that will end the night.

Merry Christmas to all the cray hunters, noobs, sea dogs and even the noobs who think they are sea dogs. I'm thawing out the horn shark fillets as we speak - something a little special for the kids.

Stay safe and hopefully Santa will slide something down your necks tonight for Sunday's pull.

Tough Luck

Tue, 2021-12-28 18:34

Tough luck bud. I was fooled in similar fashion not long back. Met a girl online called Kym. Her profile shot looked hot and she said she could crack and shell a crayfish tail with her arse - just my type of lady.

Anyway we met up for a sunset cray salad to watch the noobs doing ramp rage at OR only for me to find out Kym was Kim and didn't care for my cray salad at all. Luckily I had a tyre iron under the passenger seat and that was that.

Love can be cruel but I still enjoyed my cray salad.

Thank God for crayfish.

Keen observations.

Tue, 2021-12-28 20:06

I'm not entirely confident I understand all of what you're saying but I think I agree.

1. Plumbers and sparkies are generally not too bright and don't work hard  - this makes boat ramps a mess of noobs at this time of year.

2. These same low IQ noobs like to sell the image of the sea dog cray hunter to bimbo fluff (ramp candy?). This is a diabolical combination when it comes to something as complex as putting a boat on a trailer. Fluff body profiles also distract sea dogs so they act like noobs too.

3. Bimbo fluff and cashed up tradie need to come down from bulk pingas and Coronas before hitting the ramp in Hilux with muddies and YBS merch - major congestion at 9am.

4. IDIOT CITY OF JOONDALUP PLANNERS (EVEN MORE STUPID THAN PLUMBERS) DON'T INCLUDE AN EXPANSION OF TRAILER BOAT FACILITIES IN MULTIMILLION DEVELOPMENT OF OCEAN REEF MARINA.

5. Down to my last EB, gotta go.

BTW Reds hitting the plastic pots HARD in 84m.

also at Ocen reef they clos fesh clean station becos to manys noob dump they womans trash in there now RUIN FOR SEA DOGS!!!

Also I think no need mak extra rams at ocen reef once i ban ski jets and womans plus mak noob do 4 year apprenter ships pull pots for sea dogs they need mak new rams at mardarys and hillary for intake noobez when they get told who sea dogs an where they not welcoms

Things in common

Wed, 2021-12-29 19:02

Sadly, you're right on the money ElGuapo

Women are good on a boat if it's just one special woman and it's a bucks day charter. Otherwise they don't earn their keep - can't navigate, can't pull pots and need to sit to piss like WCE Ben Cousins fanboys and plumbers/sparkies. They definitely wouldn't be out of place at Hillarys or Fremantle (unshaven) but leave the sea dog ports alone.

I don't know what is wrong with jetski operators. Most are healthy looking high maintenance blokes that have a passion for going too fast in choppy seas. That sort of heavy pounding to the back door isn't something I could take at my age but they seem to enjoy it so live and let live I say.

Keep chasing those crays brothers. My aim is to get a 4kg jumbo in the new year. Until then  remain tolerant and respect those around you craydogs.

Love, Rod.

FMD. Contemporary Genius.

Thu, 2021-12-30 16:56

Well I have to hand it to you mate, that has blown my mind. Looks like Direction Bank has their own Zane Grey at last. If the magazine and media offers haven't started yet I'd be bracing yourself pal, let me know if you need a manager at 20% hahaha!

You might get a bit tangled with the English language occasionally but it's clear now - you've done your time and know your shit. Innovation like this doesn't come from fanatical noobs like tackle shop squeezers that wear padded fishing gloves with the fingertips cut off. It takes a real man with an extraordinary brain, dirty hands and a fridge full of polony.

When I started school, my dad said to me "Son, sometimes you gotta think outside the box to get the box". At 6yo it went a bit over my head but later when I tenderised my first brownlip abalone I knew exactly what he was on about.

I'm glad you took the time to share a bit of the box you've had over the years with us here mate. I'm sure everone is very greatful.

Keep it coming.

Seeing undersized dhues cooked on barbie . ( I wouldn’t even give it 37 cm) Can tell from photo it’s way under . Even got juvenile markings on the poor thing .( small polony knob also gives it away) also look at your own barbie plate ( there standard gaps on all barbys) Not hard to figure out size of fish.and seeing mutilated small female cray . If I was fisheries I would look at the way undersized dhue . Yep great role models. I wonder if they have iPhones and have location device on ( while taking photos)easy to get gps reading from where photo was taken . Even can transfer to google maps and get satellite image . Only on iPhone . Scary and true .

Agreeing with Uncle

Sun, 2022-01-02 09:39

I agree with Uncle, LJ don't leave, your input leaves others trailing well behind in your wake.

Give it time and as Unc says, it will implode as others have done . It may be a bit of a giggle to start off with but soon you realise that it goes over the top and isn't funny any more.

As the saying goes John, joke's starting to wear a little thin. Absolutely don't mind a bit of humour but when these clowns block up what was a good thread it gets boring and very unfunny.

Tigers

Sun, 2022-01-02 12:43

Seen some huge ones, up to 5 metres and some huge hammers as well.

The ones you got off the beach were good fish, bloody hard work when you cannot chase them as you can with a boat.

Back to the thread

Sun, 2022-01-02 11:46

Back to the thread. Best pull so far today.  19 from 5

4, 2, 0, 0 13 keepers. 2 undersize along the way.

Mostly reds, few whites

Took 3 out and have left 2 in to pull every 4 days or so. These had been in for about a week.

Mine

Sun, 2022-01-02 17:16

Pulled ours in during last week, brought mine in on Tuesday and went to get the missus ones on Thursday, couldn't locate the first one so looked around and pulled the other and realised where the other one should be. Scouted around and found the rope with floats cut off clean as a whistle and the rope minus any slime that doesn't  come from when pulling by hand. Don't mind getting the pot pulled but not happy when they decide to cut floats off.

Got to do the seals on trim ram and will drop pots back in after a couple of weeks when reds show up again.

Ended up with about a dozen southerns and 2 reds, no whites over about 4 weeks potting, a feed for Xmas was the aim  and achieved it.

Last pull

Wed, 2022-01-05 14:29

Retreived my pots from FFB today follwoing a couple of weeks there, after struggling closer inshore. Today, three reds from the pot set right on the reef edge, nothing in the other, which was nearby but a few metres from the reef edge on sand. That one had been steadily catching whites until 3 days ago. I guess they've moved out and it'll main by reds now?

Depends

Wed, 2022-01-05 16:28

All depends where you're fishing cob. Most of the whites have moved from the shallows but we're still getting a mix out deeper. Still the odd soft white.

Better off not paying too much attention to the keyboard kings and just persist with the basics - if you don't go you won't know, don't be a sheep hey. If you want whites then travel further, resident reds where they always are.

There's a bloke on here reckons polony bait probably your best bet for late season whites. He seems to have more of a clue than most of us here.

Enough

Wed, 2022-01-05 18:27

Thanks for the info Rod Stoker. I've only been doing the cray potting for three  white runs, so  just keen to develop some knowledge, have a bit of fun making pots, learn the ropes and get better at it. Only working out to about 15m depths. Caught enough crays to feed the rels at Christmas, cheer up the neighbours and overdose the family for a couple of weeks . Today's 3 reds will go into a seafood paella with fresh herring and squid, washed down with a dry white to finish off the season for me.   Would be keen to learn about whether dropping pots for the resident reds can be done consistently, but otherwise I'll put the gear away until November.

 That Paella sounds

Wed, 2022-01-05 18:32

 That Paella sounds insane.

Mate we fish the reds all summer, they do dwindle a bit this time of year but will pick up again in a few weeks. We'll normally get 6-8 size per pull of 4 pots all in around 8m of water. Luckily where we are doesn't get hammered.

Yes, had the paella with a Singlefile. The previous one was with a Castelli.  Both excellent Great Southern reislings to go with that type of dish..

 We're on the same program

Fri, 2022-01-07 15:42

We're on the same program fellas! Singlefile is a favourite, as is Castelli. Ferngrove is another cracker. Dukes Magpie Hill is a great premium riesling from that area. Had a couple of bottles of Grosset Springvale riesling from the Clare Valley the other day and they were excellent.

Nice

Wed, 2022-01-05 18:37

Good for you fella. Nice to hear when people fish for their needs not to fill a freeza. I enjoy the odd cray but they're really not something I rate too high and would eat all the time. Still, it's good fun and any day watching the sun rise from the water is a good one.

Cheers

Rod

Thu, 2022-01-06 10:54

I'm with you Rod. My boat isn't made for potting but I'll get a couple of small ones just to drop at Rotto when I'm over there. The odd cray with a coldie is always enjoyable!

Stella or Bellamine

Fri, 2022-01-07 18:40

Are my favourite sav blancs .....Stella a bit pricey though for us pensioners.   I still rate wild caught shark bay prawns or locally caught c4abs way above crayfish .

Still plenty around out wider in 30 to 40metres .....mate bagged out on really large crays out there when pulling his pots for the last time this season.

Seafood for dinner to celebrate my 70th tomorrow (a week late) scallop gratin, black arse and baldie lemon pepper crumbed fillets, shark bay prawns simply barbecued .

Oh and given I am getting on a bit will have a glass of a VERY very expensive scotch given to me by a Fishwrecked member in thanks for getting his boat and home claim

met by crappy insurers .....thanks Dejan and all the best for the new year
