D9 sounder pics on new 585 with M260 1kw
Submitted by whipasswaverunner on Fri, 2011-10-28 21:15
Hi all, went out today to check out how the new sounder looks. Went to the D9 and took some pics of what was down there. I have never been here before so never seen what it looks like on the screen. Is this what other people see, and does it look like there is any fish down there.(note, at this stage I hadn't done any fine tuning on settings).
Also, some advice please, we also went to Herring bay, behind Garden Island, and anchored up in 1.3m of water, and every now and then the screen filled up with activity in water below boat. There was definitley no fish under boat visually, and no bubbles or turbulence. What could this be?
Overall, very happy with sounder and ducer.
Appreciate any comments.

I am seeing fish on your D9
I am seeing fish on your D9 pick & also agree with Harro to change those settings. The gain looks to be turned right up in such shallow water & you are using a 1kw tranny

yea, the settings weren't right.
I got out of woodmans point and went straight to the D9. Did the fine tuning when anchored in Herring Bay while the kids played on the beach.
Cheers

i've turned my 200khz
i've turned my 200khz calibration settings up to max +20 i think. gives a little more poke
agreed you need stuff all gain for those depths
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

I have the same
I have the same sounder/transducer (in hull) and in water to 400m of 50khz I never get the gain above 2.0, usually closer to 1.0. TVG on high.
On 200khz I never need to get the gain above about 3.0. It is well worth allocating a hour or 2 next trip out and try changing settings, gain, calib, TVG, colour erase etc and see how different combos work. I got some good advice when setting mine up but still fine tune it each trip.

yep
Agree with Tim. My transdeucer isn't set up properly due to the angles on my boat, but even then it doesn't ever really get above 5 gain. It is probably why you are getting stuff at 1.3m, it is picking up sea lice. ;)

Gain setting will
Gain setting will differentiate between boats, so what works for you mite not work for him.Especially with inhull wetbox tranny.
I know it was the case on my last 2 boats My 585s had to have the gain setting different.
l will admite he doesnt need a gain set at 5 in 10 meters of water though. If you search the forums theres some good threads on setting, l know l found Harros on here somewhere and Ryans posted afew comments aswell.
Scroll speed would be the first thing l would change, 1/1
IMO

well i think the detail in
well i think the detail in the 1st pic looks ok , i can see fish and get the structure height. 2nd pic is weird because 1.25m is a little shallow to sound in.(my opinion ) your prop bubbles and current give the false readings. (my opinion)

have found that in shallow
have found that in shallow water , having tvg set on anything other than low knock out some returns.
turning tvg up boosts the power at depth but quietens the shallow returns.

furuno users
i remember fishing in the 40,s 50,s and had my tvg medium, works great, i did try it on low tvg and yep i lost power, funny thing was last time deep i fished it also low, when it should of been high, and so much action going on i forgot to change it haha,
a tip whip is if you see a second echo , then usually its penetrating to deep , you can turn down the power and zoom it some,
here you go mate, this pdf is very usefull for all furono users,
www.fishtec.co.za/furuno_setup.pdf
i recommend 1/1 for deep drop as the boat seems to move at the same speed as the bottom current, , around the 40,s i would say around 2/1 , as we have it so basically when u look at your sounder and see /flares & fish come up then usually within 20-40m your rig drifts over it,
white is very good, but you also may want to check out the blue background, and maybe have the colour settings on 16, ( less confusion)
good luck mate,

Harro if you have it say at
Harro if you have it say at 2/1 for around 40mtrs or less,i have been using mine at 1/1 but will give it a go at 2/1.Would you change it for cruising around looking for fish ? Thought it had more to do with that than when drifting. Have been using this set up only for last 6 months so def not the full btl on it yet.

yeah willo
yeah guess its kind of personal preference, at around 40-60,s it works good for us, and i do not change it at all mate, in fact its prob better for sounding,
we are used to it, and on the drift when we see the sounder light up its a matter of another minute or so until the rig comes across it, it reads the ground before your lines to it, which gets you ready if you know what i mean,
cheers mate
